It's amazing how things get bent out of shape - my initial point was, with all this austerity/misery/ludicrous bills
-the public sector can ill afford to ask for wage rises, there’s no money to pay them. Simple.

I fully expect public sector workers to not give a fuck about the rest of us. It has always been thus.

Public sector pay-rises don’t come from a magic tree the government has, they have to tax the rest of us...and I’m skint. Sorry. proper fuckin bread line skint.

How much do you earn?

Out of interest, where do private sector pay rises come from? The air? Unless they are achieved purely by increasing productivity (highly unlikely given the UK's productivity statistics) they must come from increased profits and increased prices paid for by - the public. What is the difference?

How do you expect public services to function if they cannot attract the staff? I know that (about 20 years ago) a quite generous local authority around here could not get architects to work for the pay offered, so had to contract out work out which - guess what? - cost the authority more and ultimately the ratepayers/taxpayers. I tell you something else. I would not be Chief Executive of a major council or an NHS Trust for £100k or even £200k. It would simply not be worth the hassle, which includes ill-informed rants from people who think such jobs are a doddle.

Neanderthal economics rears its head again.

My guess is all the dissenters on here work for the public sector - I might be a dick, but I earn every penny.
I work in the private sector, and our biggest customer is the UK government. Our staff got a decent pay rise this year funded from profits largely achieved due to the government paying us for goods and services. That sort of screws up your little theory doesn't it.
