I've always had fixed rate deals, I was paying £90 for both for 18 months before it went to £218. I'll end up getting a fixed rate deal eventually but I'm seeing how far I can go before it creeps up.If you've been on a variable the whole time then just be careful, as your usage will have dropped significantly over the last few months while it's warmer and brighter.
I think the general cost has come down slightly, but don't get suckered into thinking it'll stay around £100. That's not to say a fixed of £170 all year is worth it either as you may end up paying too much, but I suppose at least you've got some comfort of having fixed it.

Fucking Hell Kaz, have things come to that, walking round your house with a fucking torch ?My little trusty torch is struggling so brought a twin pack of slightly bigger but still small ones, batteries included , for a tenner or so on amazon , using them in the evenings already and early morning when i get up to feed merlin
