Gas & Electricity

The trouble is the government has totally fooked up.

We have let our gas storage facilities fall into disrepair, we still produce nearly 60% of our gas needs but not enough thought or resources has been spent on ensuring our energy needs can be met by opening new gas fields which we have in the North Sea.

The whole climate change has blinded the government who have not planned properly for a move away from fossil fuels and the big companies who explore new gas fields haven’t bothered for years as gas prices were low.

Why hasn’t vat on energy been quashed and why are we all still paying the green levy during these times. We exported gas to Europe during the summer as we had insufficient storage so why are the monies received from the gas used to offset our prices?
It’s sick that the big companies are making insane profits. We should cap there profits for the next 2 years or so and freeze the cost of gas etc or call a national emergency and re nationalise our oil fields if the big firms don’t play ball

The oil fields are nationally owned. The oil cos pay a gov fee for every barrel extracted or for a licence to do it. And they pay an additional ‘North Sea’ tax. How much? No idea.
Most of the profits of the big oil cos are not logged in UK, it’s about 5% of them I believe, so we can’t effectively do much on that front.

Astonishing how the government have just sat back this summer and just pissed about with a leadership contest. It will be off the scale the damage done to the economy and we are walking into a depression that will last many years. I predict civil unrest will be on the cards.
