However, I think everyone leads such insular lives now that it’s a non starter for most people.Had a report on TV here that German Govt is recommending neighbors alternate heating their homes and share evenings together, to reduce their heating bills by upto half, plus the proverbial “wear a nice warm sweater”!

Have you asked about just switching to paying for the gas /electric that you use. I don’t mean a prepayment meter but take a reading every month and pay what you use. You should have a fair idea how much you use each month going off last years bill? I pay my bill’s monthly just dial in a reading every month.Our £67.00 lasted six days this month, so Bill for this month likely to be £341-00! DD just been reduced by bulb to £204 a month, luckily have a few £ in credit!! Still not nice though as that was our total winter spend two years ago!

Not a single Government for 50+ years has had an energy strategy. When we had abundant North Sea gas we sold it cheap to prop up a burgeoning welfare state and then to pay dividends to a new generation of share owners.Well last night was fucking freezing and the next few nights are gonna be the same, people should just turn the heating on to keep warm, children, old people, people with disabilities, people housebound. What are these energy companies going to do when millions of people can’t afford to pay there bills.
This has been created by this Government with no hindsight into what the effect the war with Russia would have around Europe, analysts ,economists, who advise on all things to running this country. This government should be held accountable for this disaster it has heaped on the public, none of those fuckers will be sat at home thinking I can only afford to heat one room. Labour and Conservatives have failed to mend the roof when the sun was shining. Cheap money and credit ,Governments fixated on growth in their short term windows. The Russian angle was borne out of international failures of western democracies but principally Obama's failures on foreign policy.
So this Government with all its many failings merely continued the failings oh its predecessors.

Driving me insane having to constantly worry about heating/electricity.
I have quite a large debit with Scottish Power due to a historic bill but my dual DD has gone from 90 up to 290 now, including 20 to pay off the debit.
Just a small 2 up 2 down with the Mrs and 2 young kids, does that not seem excessive or about par for what people are finding? We don't have the heating on more than 2/3 hours a day if that.
I've called then recently to reset it as I cancelled the last dd and just made a manual payment but they were quick to jump on the threats/escalations. When you consider there's £66 pm from the government as well, seems a hell of a lot?
And they usually spend the last year of their government making things as difficult as possible for the incoming one so they have a better chance of getting back in 5 years later!They are accountable but only every 5 years unfortunately.

Simply went on chat and told them not to increase it. Sorted.
One thing with Ovo. They are sending the £400 in 6 monthly payments of approx £66

It’s shite isn’t it, we’re sitting layered up while in the house and it’s a nice experience to accompany the wife to the garden centre to look at the Christmas stuff as the cad journey is toasty warm..I've actually taken to sitting in the car for half an hour in the morning while I let the heaters de-ice our motors.
I've told the wife it's to make sure nobody drives off with them, but it's actually to keep warm and listen to Heart Xmas on the radio.
Been sat in here 20 minutes and the air temp is minus six.

Impressive work.What I found amusing is that when your job takes you out of the house for over half the week, you only ever use one room 90% of the time, don't have heating on and unplug everything you don't need when you're not in the home, the leccy company send you a letter saying 'based on your usage, we've dropped your rates... by 15p'!!!

We’ve had ours on for 12 hours a day at 19 degrees costing us about £6/7 which I don’t think is that bad in the grand scheme of what’s going on, my wife works from home so the cash we save on petrol goes towards it. We knocked it down from 20 to 19 degrees and it does make a cost difference and it’s negligible on how it feels. Like others have said just stick it in what are they going to do when millions can’t/won’t pay? It’s fucking freezing at the moment and going to get worse the next week!

It's hit my pre-paid meter on the first in November and October but still not had it yet for this month
