Gas & Electricity

I received a letter from Cadent today saying that on 2 December they plan to start replacing the existing gas pipes to our road/area with new plastic ones. The letter says the work is expected to last 8 weeks and during this time the gas will be turned off to individual premises as and when necessary.
So that's less than 2 weeks notice about major disruption and interruption of gas supply during the coldest anticipated period of the winter. It's upgrade work therefore it doesn't need to be done immediately, so there's no reason they couldn't have put it back until the spring. How they're allowed to get away with this is questionable. Another monopoly supplier with no regard for households.

Terrible that, hopefully not much down time I'm sure they will have to work in a way that limits people not having gas

We had that in July just gone. The gas was only off on one day for about 6 hours. Obviously that didn’t matter as much in summer.

Hopefully they limit your time without gas to similar timescales.

Had my first day with Tomato Energy, just under 12kwh for £1.36 can't grumble with that. So just under £2 with the standing charge.
So for 18 hours gas yesterday it cost us £6! Moved the thermostat into the living room now from the hallway (which is coldest room) looking at it it takes a long time to drop so this should mean the boiler does t have to come on as much, will see how we go. £6 a day is obviously unsustainable but if it’s necessary over winter so be it.

My bill is in , first one with ovo fixed

Used £24 elec , standing charges £16
£16 is a joke , for low users like me it makes a huge difference

Gas i used nothing as i switched off the boiler a while ago as it is old and playing up , standing charge £8

Energy companies are scum

They did that with me about this time last year, it was fine, they switched it off for about 3 hours in the morning then an hour at tea time, only the one day, they also supplied us with 2 electric heaters.

When would you like the upgrade work to take place?

I've received a similar notification. Work proceeded as far as the highways clearing all roadside parked vehicles and installing temp' traffic lights...then nothing, everything packed away.
THREE times the same performance has happened just this year. Conflicts with other utility providers, manpower, lack of materials.
I complained that every time I had to shift my car off the road I had to pay to park. Just got an apology.
