These “debates” need to be binned off. They’re awful. And basically nobody watches them.

The only one that was even vaguely interesting was the one with the 7 deputies and smaller parties. It was moderated well and each candidate actually had something to say.

Maybe this year’s are particularly bad as Starmer and Sunak are both awful at them and both clearly think they’re a load of guff too.

When most of the electorate realise that sunak is totally out of touch with the real life consequences of 14 years of self-servatives government, it is very relevant in this election, and you don't rise through the legal profession to head the CPS without being able to think on your feet.
He isn’t good on his feet, mate, which is unusual for a criminal silk who have to be generally more adept than in other areas of legal practice where hearings are less fluid and there’s more predictability in proceedings. In crime it’s a huge advantage to have your wits about you.

I will say, however, that he must have compensated enormously to become DPP, presumably by way of diligence, hard work and being all over his brief, which is especially impressive as opponents would have realised (and word would have got around) that he wasn’t quick at thinking on his feet and exploited it, especially as he appears easy to rattle.

Maybe that explains why he chose a job in the civil service away from the coal face of advocacy.

The words still came out his mouth and Ashworth's. There was no reason to mention Bangladesh.
They are pushing this on tv this morning, fuck me he mentioned one section, no matter who he mentioned it would cause offence, they might not be in the top five but they can still be returned, move on, this is the problem with all this politics bollocks, trying to find offence everywhere.

I get so f..king angry. You want to ‘stop the boats’? Provide a safe and legal route. You want to improve the economy? Improve links with our largest trader the EU. Nobody talks about them because they don’t want to upset the so called ‘red wall’. A lot of people have no empathy for those less fortunate. We have 2m people using food banks on a regular basis( sorry, in Tory country these are food pantries). These people support cutting back on our welfare state, in other words the most vulnerable, after all they are the spongers, the lazy, people who want free housing. Frightening, because almost a third of the country support it (Nasty Party + Reform). How have we become like this? Have we always been unsympathetic to others?

Here's a thought. Maybe taxes need to go up because of the shit state of the country.

Here's another thought. But for the stupidity of Brexit, maybe they would not have to go up quite so much. Shrinking your economy for no good reason means higher taxes, worse services, or both. We seem to have both.

It really is time for people to stop living in Cloud Cuckoo Land, imagining that the Magic Bunny will miraculously make everything great again. We need, as a people, to face facts. Mostly unpleasant facts, by the way. Stop the con and the delusion, wake up and smell the coffee. We are not children. At least, we're not supposed to be.

Anyone who does not think after 6 months in office Labour will come out with things are far worse than we thought and there will be significant tax rises is living in cloud cuckoo land!
If higher taxes led to better public services then I think the majority of the public would be on board with that. At the moment, our public services are a fucking shambles yet we're paying a record amount of tax. It's the worst of both worlds and it's all down to your mates who have completely fucked this country up over the past 14 years. In fact, it's nigh on fucking incredible that we're in a worse position than we were 14 years ago, given that in 2010 the country was still reeling from the 2008 global financial crisis. Yet here we are and here's Sunak and the Tories hilariously deflecting away from the past 14 years of largely disastrous Tory rule by speculating on what a future Labour government might do even though they may or may not raise taxes.

Sunak was like a dead man walking last night. He knows the game is up and nothing he says is going to change that, so instead he resorted to gaslighting and losing his temper. It's not all his own fault of course - he had to try and pick up the pieces in the wake of his 2 useless predecessors but it's certainly his fault the way he's gone about it. Instead of filling his cabinet with sensible, more moderate Tories (yes, there are some of those types about) he instead pandered to the far right in his party. Astonishingly, one of his first actions was to give a job to that hateful fucker Braverman who had only just been sacked for breaking the ministerial code. No doubt you think he's mustard. Actually, no doubt you'd still vote for this shower even if that frog-faced racist **** Farage was fronting the party up and Laurence Fucking Fox was his sidekick!

i find it utterly staggering that a man so wooden and un inspirational made it to the top of his trade.

Not really worthy of a response. Lower taxation can lead to huge overseas investment. Look at what is happening in Ireland. Taxing successful companies is not the way forward to prosperity. You completely ignore the cost and implications of covid which have impacted the whole western world.

I agree but I still think a lot of our taxes are wasted, look at the state of HS2 etc, the PPE scandals, Liz Truss. If anyone thinks it’s going to get better on July 5th they are living in like you said cloud cuckoo land, if they want to put income tax up by 1p fair enough but get rid of the personal allowance freeze, it’s going to take two terms to get anywhere close to getting us back on our feet, people will need to remember that in 2029. It would be nice get some feel good factor back but it’s going to cost a fucking fortune, if you want more police you need better wages, more nurses etc better immigration, and accountability, if your kids are committing crime under the age of 18 hold the parents responsible as well. It’s a massive job we’ve been in turmoil since 2008, I said back then it would take us 20-30 years to recover from that shit show and it’s now 16 years in, seems unfortunately I’m going to be right.

I watched the last 15 minutes of last nights debate, the main takeaway I took was how fucking rude Sunak is, horrible little bloke.
