This National Service idea isn’t necessarily a terrible one per se, if it was non-military and applied universally.

There is a disconnect within society, significantly fuelled by social media that needs stridently addressing. This disconnect is the principal reason why crime, especially violent crime, continues to rise.

The problem is that nothing works in this country anymore- transport, the courts, the health and education systems - so the reality is that this will be no different- and what sort of mug would believe that these cunts would keep their word and implement it anyway? There is absolutely fucking zero chance of that. Anyone who actually believes that is a stupid ****.

Social media or reality? What prospects are there for young people in general? I'm not saying there aren't any, but they are immensely shitter than just a few years ago.

It's no wonder kids who are don't have positive male role models get lured into idolising violent gangsters. Or those with no prospects think selling hards drugs or violent crime is a good career.

National Service. Who pays for it? If you opt for Armed Forces service or NHS or several other options from next year you put 600k + 19 year olds on the govt payroll. Uniforms, equipment, accommodation etc all have to be paid for - training staff themselves would have to be trained to provide the necessary training of the intake. Who pays their wages? Presumably government who will also need to expand the Civil Service to administer this growth in personnel. A Civil Service which they have pledged to slash.

A govt that wants a small state? Really? With that level of expansion ! Oh and if you choose to not show up there are no sanctions.

As I said yesterday this isn't a policy its something dreamed up by a SPAD because Sunak had a blob strop yesterday and wouldn't come out to play so they needed some shit to fill that vacuum.

Yes, it’s a totally valid point about prospects and one my girlfriend made in relation to the housing ladder.

That doesn’t invalidate the point about the negative impact social media and smartphones are having on young people.

Perhaps the Tories can bring back rationing to help with the cost of living. In addition to spending billions on border controls and infrastructure to limit the food that we can get, imposing a three eggs a week ration will make your dwindling income stretch further and overcome self-inflicted shortages. It’s a win-win.

The money will come from the levelling up fund designed to help regions and communities. Far better to spend this money on rounding up 18 y/o’s to sit in a nissan hut for a year in the Outer Hebrides.
