Who watched the fights then? Felt a bit like a the ultimate fighter show where they have no audience and you can just hear everything.
I felt this was a HUGE improvement in experience! I love it like this, but know it won't stay!
Werdum finally came back and he reminded me of how he was in Pride days and early in UFC when he got KTFO'd by Junior. He looked overweight, slow and didn't look like he wanted to be there, if he can't put in the work and get back to where he was then he needs to retire.
Agreed about his time being done.
I wasn't impressed. Quite bored, actually.
Pettis vs Cowboy was a decent fight for two fighters that i think are on the way down, i do think Pettis won it quite comfortably but i'd like to see Cowboy retire now. I think he's said he's staying around but the UFC should offer him something on the commentary side and force him to retire, he will never do it on his own as hes an adrenaline junkie.
Yeah, Cerrone's fought too many time over a short distance. Saying that, I don't agree with the decision.
I thought they were virtually even with the strikes, but cerrone's take-downs gave him the edge.
Ngannou is fucking scary man, i thought this could be a problem fight for him but he's got so much trust in KTFO'ing people he just goes in there head first. If an elite striker can evade his strikes and wait for their moment he could be in trouble, there is zero defence when he's throwing, but you are risking getting sent to another dimension like Jairzinho was. On the other side i think if you follow the gameplan Stipe set out and grind him out, you'll be able to take him out.
So, let me start with the Stipe thing. As I said way back then, that fight was a learning curve. Something he needed and adding to his fight IQ. he's dealt with wrestlers, since then and has shook them off.
As for Jarzinho, I knew he getting taken out. Just knew it but, obviously, not as quick as that!
Ngannou is the next champ and will probably be undefeated from then on. But, I did not like the casual attitude he had at the start of the fight. Highly disrespectful.
Cejudo vs Cruz was a bullshit call, the knee was nice but it caught Cruz more off balance than hurting him. But when you get an Olympic wrestler over you in turtle position its not a fucking easy call to get up, he was still moving and looking for a way out of the position, shit call. Cejudo has retired now, fair fucks hes done everything. I would like to see that fight again but i really wanted to see the Mighty Mouse trilogy, i thought he lost the rematch as well tbh.
It's semantics about the stoppage. I thought it was the right call. I've seen numerous fighters start getting up only to be caught with a shot that puts them out because the ref 'gave them a chance'.
I thought it was a good call by Dean.
Now the main event did not go at all like i thought it would, holy shit what a fight! I expected Gaethje to gas, and tbh into the second round i thought he was in big trouble. But he managed to listen to his corner and dialled down on his combinations a tiny bit which made a world of difference. Ferguson's face after the fight was how he makes everyone else look, man has he got a fucking chin on him. However you have to feel for him, he trained so long for Khabib and Gaethje is a completely different style of fighter. They won't do it, but i think Ferguson deserves another shot at.
I thought the main event would be a war. Little did I expect it to be so one sided! This was like role reversal in fighting IQ. I've never really been impressed by Gaethje's rock 'em-sock 'em fight style where Ferguson was king.
He grew the fuck up in UFC 249. He used his brain and had to be told about how he lost the last time in that position. Laser guided left shots, moving his head, picking the shots and pacing himself, finally. I'm a fan, at last!
He'll take Khabib out. Of that, I'm sure.
Let's hope he continue to grow his fight IQ. He has all the right tools to reign for a long time!
