doesn't matter what breed or if it was a loving family dog, people forget they can turn on you anytime.shocks me that folk leave young kids alone with dogs, although i see this is a 15yr old in this case

Give over. Millions of people live side by side with all types of dogs in this country alone. Lots of them have children.

I still have a scar on my cheek from when I was 5, I got up quick to answer the front door and our jack russel latched on to my face, my mum belted it with the poker to make it let go.. before that it had never ever shown any hostility to me my family or anyone...It was put down later that day.

these instances are rare though, how many dog attack cases are there yearly maybe, twenty ? very low numbers, nothing compared to the millions of dogs in the country.

There will be a few attacks, but that is inevatable they are animals.

i have never seen that in the uk or seen it reported. Most stray dogs are left on there own and are more than not found and put in the kennels.

Mainly russia and eastern europe mate...these dogs were not strays, just saying that dogs still have the wolf in them.

well they basically are a type of wolf. Thats what some people fail to realise, dont leave your kid with so called dangerous dogs and this type of thing wouldnt happen.

Most cases it seems are of people leaving there kids with the dogs, why leave a child of say 3 with a dog you know probably shouldnt be around kids. I just cant get my head around it.
all dogs genes can be traced back to the grey wolf...

whilst its unlikely your dog will turn on you it happens a lot and usually to very young kids who are alone with the dog.its not worth the risk to leave the 2 together unattended.im a animal lover and i have had dogs,a kid pulls its tail when its not in the mood and it will bite

given the number of dog owners and the number of fatal attacks, no, it doesn't happen a lot.

the amount of dog bites i have stitched up tells me otherwise

how many?? there are barely any dog attacks in terms of the millions of dogs in the country

what kind of dogs do you deal with or that have bitten you. Not just little bites, but actually gone for you.

stray dogs often group into packs and soon turn ferile.
My nana has just been telling she remembers a pregnant woman being cornered and killed by a pack of stray dogs on boundary lane in Hulme in the 1970's. I do remember when dogs used to roam about in packs when I was a kid in the early 80's. the opening titles of the film "Rita, Sue and Bob too" shows a roaming pack of dogs I think?
I remember when I was a kid in the early 1980's I was playing on wasteland behind fallowfield library,Rostherne Avenue.( It is all houses now) and I was set upon by 5 dogs of different breeds, shit myself and climbed up a tree

In the United States, nearly 2% of the population is bitten by dogs each year with an average of 26 deaths a year.

A dog keeps getting out near me. It's some sort if bull terrier thing and it seems like a nice enough friendly dog jumping up and down at folk and being generally giddy. It got out when me and my six year old were out playing and it scared the shut out of him. I took it back to the owners house (young woman in pyjamas, mid afternoon). A week later it gets out again jumping up and down being daft and scaring the young kids. This time it sticks the nut on one lad and hurts his mouth. I take the dog back to the house and the fuckwit who answers is your typical young scumbag with gold chains and subhuman intelligence.

'Its not my fault, mate. It keeps getting out.'
Me- 'well keep it secure in the house or garden. There's kids playing out here.

'Im trying. I put something up against the cat flap but it gets out. (probably a cornflake box or something equally as secure!)

Then he starts effing and blinding in the middle of the street on front of the kids telling me to mind my own biz etc.

It's the owners who are fucking idiots! The dog cant really be blamed because it doesnt know any better. They shouldn't be allowed animals of any kind if they can't control them. Now everybody has been lucky up to now that its been me who's sorted the dog out. It's hurting kids and its not even being nasty. Somebody else might've hurt the dog, or the dog could've turned on the kids if they'd have kicked it away.

A dog license should be brought back and owners checked for suitability.

Rant over.

If you keep packs of aggressive dogs, bad shit happens and all of these people going "They can turn on you in a second" generally do so because the person has done something fucking stupid.

I got bit by my aunts dog when I was 5, it was my own fault for trying to play with an old, partially blind dog. Shit happens, but if you have a dog from a puppy you have pretty damn good idea of it's temperament. Dogs generally mirror their owners which is why when you hear about dog attacks, it's always the same breeds because it's often (not always) the same kind of people that have these breeds.

Some quite interesting statistics on dog attacks on this page......
