That’s a shame, I always liked Romiley it’s a great track. Come to Prestbury, the greens will be running true all winter and will only be on temps when it gets icy.

I’ve definitely lost a few yards this year (52 last birthday) so I’ve been working on my short game to try and make up for it (never practiced anything before, just played and been hovering around 6 for years).

My short game is better now but I‘d love to get a few yards back with my driver and see if I can get down to scratch before it’s too late so I’ll try these speed stick things over winter.
They did really aggressive maintenance at the end of March which was too early because of the cold, didn't recover till June, then they repeated in early August and only recovered by the fag end of the season. To say that the members weren't happy would be an understatement.
Scratch is a big ask, I admire your positivity. Good luck. Got down to 2 one year but couldn't sustain it. 3 to 4 was my sweet spot until recently.

Do any of you play at a course that don’t use fairway mats , proper greens and well draining??
Me and my mates fancy a trip out over the Xmas period.. I looked at Delamere Forest but it’s £90 even in the winter !
Buxton & High Peak, not my home course but one I’ve played a few times is well known for draining well and a quick look at their website suggests mats are not in use.

Personally I don’t mind the mats as I find it hard to maintain consistency on the softer fairways

I really like BHP , I used to play there in the Derbyshire & Cheshire league when I was At Werneth Low. Thanks for that it will be touch and go what the weather is like around Xmas in Buxton but I will defo keep that in mind

Don’t think Tweety is a member at Romiley, I am ,and the greens are very good . Not sure where he’s at .

I have lessons off Curtis Hughes ( marks hughes son ) and he’s a member at Prestbury. He told me they have spent something like £750k on course improvements !!! I played it in a invitation over 20 yrs ago so don’t remember much about it

Yep played with Curtis a few times, he hits it a mile. They’ve redone all the bunkers and reworked some holes. Definitely worth a day out if you fancy a change, it’s a fair test and lovely setting.

Padraig has great swing speed for a seniors tour age. Watched him on YouTube and I think superspeed sponsor him.
I think as amateurs we're too worried about position off the tee whereas the pros just want to get the ball as close to the green as possible.

They do have the advantage of ball spotters though! :)
