Gundogan

Not sure why people are arguing about who's better out of Gundogan and Dinho, Gundogan has the edge but it doesn't really matter as both will play at the same time.

Agreed overall though, as much as I appreciate that we've had players who pretty much keep themselves out of the spotlight, it's abundantly clear that we are missing some real viciousness.

Completely agree. When we won the league the first team we had a real physical edge - Lescott, Kompany, Richards (when he played), De Jong, Barry, Toure, Dzeko... it's something we are lacking at the moment, particularly in midfield. We need someone who will put themselves about and show teams we won't be a walkover. Hopefully Gundogan can do that role for us.

Not had it properly since Nigel... Pellegrini turned us into a right bunch of pussies.... You might hate Jose (as do I) but him, conte, poch will all have a nasty streak throughout the team, Peps no different.... I look at people like dier, Alli and Kane, all have an edge which we don't have in our current make up.

I can't wait to get jumping off my arse again and applauding some battle hardened games...

I'm not saying he has a weakness ala Kompany, but he without question misses too many games for my liking currently.

I think he could be brilliant for us, but he doesn't solve our midfield problem if we don't have an adequate alternate playing his role if/when he is injured.

That's what I thought you were asking mate, was replying just as I got through the door! Barry was better than De Jong, Fernandinho better than both. Fernandinho will prove more solid than Iker.
 
I'd be very happy with several 'low key' signings like this tbh. Very efficient, productive players will get us further than marquee signings.
E.g. For all the hype, 'amazing, superstar' Coutinho only had a hand in 5 more goals than 'flop of the season' Sterling last year, having played an extra 500 minutes. The numbers don't lie so it's important not to get drawn in by the BS that the pundits and newspapers spout.
Generally Pep has got rid of the more luxury players and used those that go about their job with little fuss and maximum effect. Yes, he's had Messi, Xavi, Lewandowski etc. but they're all very consistent, efficient players who do more than just look good. Gundogan (when fit!) is this too and Pep must have amired him on a regular basis in Germany.
 
a gamble with his injury record, and a recent knee dislocation is an injury that has a high probably of repeating.
 
Hopefully this Pep lad has seem him play and knows his strengths and weaknesses and how he would fit into the squad.
 
Well from those replies I'm a lot more excited over this now as he's over long-term/recurring injuries and can stay fit. If he plays a role similar to Modric then that would immediately put us up a notch, we've always seemed to lack someone like that - that can hold the midfield, keep possession and find passes (Yaya could against smaller teams but couldn't do it against bigger teams in Europe due to his poor work-rate). If Ferna can improve his ability to maintain possession in passing then they'll be a perfect compliment to each other.

The only question I find myself asking about Pep's team - where does Silva fit in?

And making players with good records injury prone. Been pretty impressive over the last few years - if we bought Ashley Williams, his leg would fall off
