Harry Kane

I know he's not available and unlikely to be sold unless its a daft offer, but Ollie Watkins would score 25-30 goals for us in his sleep.

Villa picked him up for a song from Brentford. That's the sort of lad we should be looking for.
Decent logic but there’s still the possibility that debut seasons in the PL like that was his ‘birthday season’ - Watkins could well struggle to replicate it or he could go from strength to strength. City are seeking established quality for this position - someone who has done it season in season out for a number of years. Kane fits that bill.

One further benefit of Kane? I don’t think he’s the type of character to be weighed down by the size of the likely transfer fee.

Ive kept my vote for Kane simply because I think he will do the business for us. That said like a lot of the 49% voting no my personal preference would be Haaland ahead of him in an ideal world, but as we all know we rarely get that.

Na, I'm happy with my reasons, thanks. That level of money can get a real top quality player, or a couple, and sort out the next number of years whether through their staying or it being recouped and reused. Or it can handicap the club in the next few years, for the sake of a couple of seasons. And thats assuming he hits his level from four seasons ago, again.

Hope all has been ok btw, during the bit of an absence. The scenario you mentioned some time ago of Messi being a free agent with Barcelona still attempting to sign him had indeed now come about. And as I claimed at the time, has indeed blown my mind!

Whatever your reasons are for not wanting him the club seem to have decided they are prepared to smash their transfer record for him, and the best coach in the world seems hellbent on adding him to his squad. Those two things should give you pause, I know they would me.

I'm sure when Pep agreed to sign his extension, it was because the club promised to deliver what HE wanted.

In two years time he possibly walks either way, because he has added the Champions League trophy and at least another league title, or because he accepts that having been given the players he wanted, he came up short?
Yeah i think he walks either way in a couple of years....

He may think he has come up short if he doesnt win the CL and large sections of the media will definitely spin it that way but in my mind he has achieved on a never previously seen scale.

1. He has won a huge amount of trophies
2 He has introduced the Prem League to the best brand of football it has ever seen
3. He has done it his way having been told by numerous "experts" and pundits that his brand of football would fail in the prem league and he wouldnt be able to play it on a rainy Tuesday night in Stoke.
4. He has changed the way English teams play football: Peps brand of football is being emulated (or attempted ) at all levels of football from international level and prem level to grass roots kids football - that is his biggest legacy (and maybe the one that wont be acknowledged as it should be)

The CL is put on a pedastal.....for me, it isnt the pinnacle - not always the best team wins it and quite often its won by a team playing "safe" football. The league (whih ever country it is in) is always won by the team that plays consistently the best football

If he does sign for us, there will eventually be a lot of backtracking from naysayers.

I would 100% be delighted to backtrack and shout from the rooftops I was wrong about him, if he performs as those that want him proclaim, and does so over a number of years. Absolutely delighted.

why be pessimistic about a player we are after should believe he is going to do well the after a season or two you’ll learn if that the player was worth buying if he hasn’t preformed then point out it wasn’t worth it!

A song? Villa paid a club-record fee of £28 million after one good season in the Championship.

Maybe. Maybe not. We will see and time will tell.

They would indeed give pause, if they were true. Seen nothing to convince me they are. Happy to see otherwise, obviously.

That goes both ways though doens't it?

If he doesn't sign for us, I expect alot of people to say "Well City WANTED to get him, but couldn't make it happen" which is what I've been saying.
