Harry Kane

Absolute bs if he didnt fit we would not sign him.he drops deep gets involved in the build up links play and scores goals stop talking shite.
Drops deep and gets involved by slowing the game down and stumbling about over the ball.
He does a good touch to allow him to go past a player and his legs cannot keep up with his footballing brain.
He looks slow playing for England, who play about half the tempo we play at.
In an early game for England Foden broke at pace and passed to Kane and you literally saw the game slow down (One example)
I’ve never doubted his goal scoring, he’s great around the box, but it’s the rest of his game that’s the problem.
He’s too slow and that problem will only be highlighted against packed defences every week.
He had his best game the other night against Denmark, but still nothing like a £130m player.
The rest of his games have been reasonable at best.
Not just for England, it happens at Spurs too.
He scores goals and he’ll get plenty in our team, most will, but for £130m (maybe more) I’d expect a better all round player who won’t slow us down, fit us better.

Spot on, it's weird how many fans see a player for their club/country and think about how he could replicate that perfectly for our club without factoring in the entirely different approaches to the game the two teams have.

If Kane comes here and we see the England Kane where he's dropping into midfield constantly, we aren't a better side, it would be a gigantic waste of money and a hindrance to us. Why would we want our striker playing in midfield getting in the way of players like kdb and gundogan who can do that role much much better and not providing an option upfront for them to find?

If we sign Kane either we change our entire approach which Pep is not going to do or Kane will be expected to develop into a completely different player, a player he's never been. I'm not saying he's not capable of doing that and wouldn't be a success but kanes hefty price tag is mainly because he's the finished article in his style, buying him at the premium levy will demand to then ask him to learn a different game just seems like a waste to me.

It's like paying more to buy a fully furnished high spec house only to immediately rip it all out and replace it when you've got the option of buying something with all the specs you want but unrenovated and cheaper.

900+ pages with little to no good argument against Kane being the right man for us.

I’m not going to claim to be tactically adept but wouldn’t him dropping deep not always be the best? There are competent midfielders behind him. Linking up play is great

As City face low blocks most of the time you’d want him in the box instead of outside more often than not. He’s not exactly quick.

There was a time when Mount had burst into the box but Kane was jogging into the box and he had no one to find and had to go back.

He’s good at buying free kicks but will he get those if he ends up playing for City? The things I’ve said are not arguments as such but just certain thoughts on a bit of his play style.

If the hierarchy at the club believe he’s the man they want, that’s fine. If the deal isn’t feasible, I’m sure they’ll have other targets. I’m not fussed if it’s a high profile individual or not. The club more often than not get it right.

I believe Kane is a player who will do what he is told. He drops deep, because he's trying to get involved, and Southgate isn't really a tactical genius. I believe with Pep around, and the midfield we have supplying him the crosses and through-balls, he will not really need to to get 40 goals a season.

I remember back in 15/16 when the hype was starting around him.

Opening game of the season Spurs played United and I remember watching that game specifically to see what the fuss was about. My conclusion then was the hype should have been bigger than it was.

He is a superb player, he's adaptable too. His skill set and his attitude fit perfectly for this current City side.

Having a striker drop deeper is all part of City's game under Pep, Aguero did it constantly after adapting his game. The issue with Kane doing it with England and Spurs is the standard of the players around him.

Kane can play as an out and out striker and during the same game can fulfill the role of a false nine. He's perfect for us and perfect for us right now.

The only striker out there at the moment in the same bracket as Kane is Lewandowski. They are the top 2 strikers in the world, and as good as Haaland is he is still mostly potential.

If I'm spending over 100m on a player I'd take the finished article over potential.

That’s a fair statement. Well, he’s only ever been at Spurs but even with different managers that’s part of his game. Nonetheless, as you’ve mentioned, with the midfielders at the club, there’d be no need for him to. In addition, if his hold up play is really good there can be runners in behind. That’s if Pep isn’t playing the same style as last season.

Your first statement is correct. I don't put any stock in how he's playing for England. If anything you would have to imagine him in the Spain side because that is closer to how we play.

To your 2nd point there isn't a guarantee he'll be dropping into midfield like he does for England especially when we play with 2 8's to begin with. There may be times where he does drop into midfield when an opponent presses high, however all our strikers do this. Jesus, Torres and even Aguero used to. It's to help progress the ball up the pitch into the final 3rd. If the opponents drop off there is no need to.

In the final 3rd I don't see him dropping into midfield unless we're constantly trying to break teams down and going through patterns of play that aren't working. But when you have the likes of KDB, Mahrez and even Cancelo who can put pinpoint crosses into the box I'd think we'd want Kane up there. Equally if we're working the ball around and someone makes a run to the byline for a cut back.

To your last point about changing the approach. Pep shown he is adaptable to the players he has. He went from the false 9 at Barca, to putting crosses into the box at Bayern because of Muller and Lewandowski to playing with pacey wingers like Sane and Sterling.
