Has the BBC become a Tory tool?

In the bin hopefully.
Hope this leads to Simon Stone, Dan roan etc.. losing their jobs

The biggest group of illegal immigrants arriving by boats are Albanians. I doubt you or I could tell them apart from British people by looking at them. A Home Secretary setting out actions to be taken against criminals (illegal migration is a crime after all) does not constitute demonisation of an ethnic group.

People have said that Lineker should have the right to compare the Nazi regime to anything he likes. Ok, that’s a view and I agree he should have that right, just that it is crass and offensive to exercise it. But surely by any standard the Home Secretary should have the right, and indeed the duty, to talk freely and frankly about people committing crimes. That is her job.

Is she right to call it an 'invasion' and a 'swarm' when we take in way less than other major European countries? Does the exaggeration help anyone?

And is it a crime to arrive and seek refuge? It didn't used to be.

As for 'Albanians' - many could recognise them visibly, and would certainly recognise a foreign accent if close by enough to hear one. The hatred being drummed up by poorly worded statements from our government puts many legitimate refugees who have moved here to escape persecution back into danger.

I hope the BBC take this opportunity to have a look at MOTD, what it's become and what they want it to be.

They need someone fronting it, they need interviews with a player and manager of each team, as for the match commentary and expert comments I don't think I missed anything with them missing.
If you know the name of every player in every team then commentators are superfluous. Most of us don’t.
Also whilst we are free to disagree with expert comments or think they’re stating the obvious, plenty of people value that input (unless it’s from Michael Owen of course).

“Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence.”
As we all know, Hitler was democratically elected. Perhaps democratic elections are therefore a precursor to ethnic cleansing? Or maybe the factors that led to the holocaust are numerous, complex and in some ways unique to that period in history and so trite comparisons like Lineker’s (and not like your far more considered comments) are unhelpful.

You are clearly able to post in a nuanced way about a sensitive issue giving due weight to the events. I don’t think Lineker did the same, which is unfortunate because he is in a position of considerable influence and should be more responsible.

To answer your first question I am self employed, this place is the only forum/social media that I would dare post, as I think its fairly safe to air your views with others who have a common interest (supporting City).

No one gives a shit what I think or write on here apart from the odd "triggered" member.

Gary lineker is a figurehead of the bbc and has to be careful of what he says publicly as it could be seen as the view of his employers, totally different situation.

If I posted on here that I thought we were shit yesterday no one would care, but if Pep posted the same on facebook/or twitter or whatever, well, see the difference.

I am all for free speech myself and dont necessarily agree with whats happening, but surely he has no need to court controversy in his priveleged position, and I dont like the bbc sport section anyway hence my comments on it, I do help fund it though.

If there is a political side to all this I am not interested in it, just the common sense(or lack of it) from lineker.
He has no need and nothing personal to gain, you’re right about that. He feels obligated to use his fame for something positive, not just for his own satisfaction

He’s not a news presenter, and even the BBC’s news presenters have for years written far more opinionated things on twitter and in papers.

There’s no comparison to be made with Pep talking about City, because Gary Linekar isn’t employed in the political sphere. He doesn’t work in politics, nor in political coverage

A comparison can be made with Pep talking about politics, which he has even used City pressers to do in the case of Catalan independence.

You mean the decade in German history defined by the surge in support for the National Socialist Party in 1930, a further descent into dictatorship in the following three years, the National Socialists becoming the largest party in 1933, the National Socialists abolishing the Weimar Republic in 1935, the National Socialists adopting extreme anti-Semitic policies during the mid-1930s, the National Socialists pushing continental Europe to the brink of war by 1938 and then establishing ghettos in several occupied cities at the end of the decade as a prelude to moving the occupants to concentration camps?

Why would anyone ever associate 1930s Germany with the Nazis?

And I’m the ignorant one?
Nice googleing there

What’s your job? Unless it’s posting on bluemoon you’re not following your own advice.

People are not just their day jobs. He *can* say whatever he likes on social media, that’s exactly what social media is for!

The only things barred from social media are attacks on protected characteristics. As of yet, being a govt minister hasn’t been declared one.
I agree that freedom of speech should be available to everyone but unfortunately it’s not these days. The problem for Gary is that he has a contract that SHOULD (plenty of examples of the BBC turning a blind eye) exclude him for making comments like that as he works for our state broadcaster and therefore be sensitive to all the political spectrum. In theory if he wants to pass comment he should jump ship and go to Sky or BT where you pays your money and takes your choice.

Unfortunately the whole thing isn’t straightforward and is riddled with hypocrisy both by the BBC and Gary Lineker. Gary didn’t mind crossing the picket line in Qatar did he?
