Has the BBC become a Tory tool?

But threads get moved and people who want to talk about Motd don't get the chance (unless they go in the 'let's all fight, argue and shout sub forum)
I don't watch motd, if I've been or already seen the game. The whole show is a scouse and rag wank fest. But I do get the politics issue being added, can be annoying

I think they misjudged the public mood on this massively, and it’s been pretty reassuring to see. For all the faults with this country, I like to think that there is still an empathy and decency amongst a lot of the population. It’s another hugely damaging episode for the BBC and government though. They’ve handled this abysmally.

Have they? Time will tell.

Support for a football man from mostly the football following community might not be a total reflection of public mood.

The Government know this. They know the bill will be shot down in the lords and the courts.

They get to the do their culture war of British patriots against the illegals on the right v the traitors and deep state on the left.

Essentially they want to re-run the Brexit type arguments in the General Election.

Idiots will fall for it.

Nail on the head.

Would probably look better than this. I hate to be the grammar police, but come on. “Minster”, ffs.

York has a minster; why shouldn't Prime have one?

I think Lineker is perfectly entitled to express his opinions - whatever they are - and I‘m hugely against ”cancellation” of anyone or groupthink by coercion. But the BBC has to walk a tightrope of impartiality (apart from football !) because of its unique cultural position. Gary knew what he doing and that he was putting the BBC in an impossible position.
It matters not that he was “freelance”, if I employed an expensive leading consultant on a project who was then briefing against or publicly criticising it he’d be off the job in an instant. Words have consequences.
By Invoking Nazi Germany in his original statement and then gleefully doubling down in the following days, left the BBC little choice in the matter: it was a direct challenge - him basically squaring up to them.
I think there’s no way back for him but he’s a very wealthy man so no problem, but I’m sure the BBC will find a way over the coming week to move forward with putting shit punditry back on our screens.
I hope they fire him tbh.

Not because of his original tweet, which was out of order, considering his very high profile and the clear instructions from his employer about additional responsibility for their high profile contributors to be seen to be impartial.

But that transgression was recoverable, had he towed to line and issued some kind of apology. Maybe even if he had said norhing, they could have found a way to patch things up.

But I agree with you. By his public refusal to compromise, he's throwing down the gauntlet to the BBC, saying in terms, "I will do what I like and am not going to obey your rules". No employer can accommodate behaviour like that. Here at Bluemoon we always take the line "no player is bigger than the club" and the same applies here.

So I hope they sack him. To not do so would send out a terrible message to other would be prima donnas. As an aside, if they can save a million or so per year, that wouldn't be a bad idea either

We might mock MOTD but for a lot of older people who don't stream or can't afford sky it's their only means of watching the football. Shame on the BBC for fucking that up for them, even if it's only for one weekend

Ditto for a lot of kids too.

I get why a lot of dedicated football fans (which is the vast majority of people who post on here clearly are) might have preferred it just seeing the highlights and no commentary. Ultimately, MOTD isn’t for you though. I’m on a last man standing whatsapp group with a bunch of more casual football fans and they all absolutely hated it.

Load of horse shit. BBC are changing/warping the rules due to current serving MP pressure being applied, Nazism all over this.
