Has the BBC become a Tory tool?

Well your opinion is certainly in a minority it seems, despite perhaps not so on our left-leaning forum.

There's countless polls on the subject, but rather than risk your potential claim that the polls are biased, here's one from the Leicester Mercury, Leicester not being particularly renowned for its right wing bias and being his home town you'd imagine he'd get plenty of support. Other polls in e.g. the Daily Express are less forgiving still.

The other comment I would make is that I am surprised the BBC are behaving as if this is some kind of difficult decision. Just get him sacked and move on. I wonder how many people watch MOTM just to hear their overpaid host say "What do you think, Alan". I imagine the show would cope without him.
I'm sorry, but an online poll on a newspaper webpage is next to worthless. I'm sure there will be a Yougov poll in the next day or two if not already.

I hope they fire him tbh.

Not because of his original tweet, which was out of order, considering his very high profile and the clear instructions from his employer about additional responsibility for their high profile contributors to be seen to be impartial.

But that transgression was recoverable, had he towed to line and issued some kind of apology. Maybe even if he had said norhing, they could have found a way to patch things up.

But I agree with you. By his public refusal to compromise, he's throwing down the gauntlet to the BBC, saying in terms, "I will do what I like and am not going to obey your rules". No employer can accommodate behaviour like that. Here at Bluemoon we always take the line "no player is bigger than the club" and the same applies here.

So I hope they sack him. To not do so would send out a terrible message to other would be prima donnas. As an aside, if they can save a million or so per year, that wouldn't be a bad idea either
He ain't getting sacked mate. If anything, it's going to be the opposite. Personally, if I was Lineker I'd have told the Tory boot-licking twats at the BBC to do one and resign. He could get double or even treble his salary at ITV or Sky. But Lineker's not like me - he's clearly a more placid and balanced character who is open to diplomacy so this will end with him being back on MOTD by the weekend.

Quite a grilling list for them really I would have thought.
Malevolent influence of the BBC
stop the small boats at all costs
stop the Unions
trash the economy
handling of the pandemic
pollute 100% of our rivers
trash the Union
Brexit (quite a small topic really)
partygate
lying and corruption in general with a few specifics thrown in
procurement of PPE from their pals
trashing the NHS
trashing the Education system
Grenfell/Cladding
Withdrawal from Afghanistan (leaving friends behind)
trashing the prison service
levelling up
The Northern Powerhouse
HS2
Increase in Child Poverty
Hostile environment
Windrush
Downing Street Renovations
Rees-Mogg, Cummings, Hancock, Shaps, Dorris, Braverman, Truss, Johnson........and the things they have said
I'm sure there are a lot more as I have just got started.

Spot on.

Unfortunately, and maybe I'm just cynical these days, but i believe that they want rid of any people that reduces their profits - that includes old people and chronically ill people (ie. people who cannot work).

Judge any government by how it treats the most vulnerable. One day any of us may be in one of those categories - do we think we'd be helped?

MOTD needs a reshuffle, been stagnant for years.

What does that entail? It's a football show with highlights and a brief bit of analysis. I don't think there's much you can do to change the formula really.

They tried it with MOTDx and that was fucking awful. I swear Jenas was one step away from pulling up on a skateboard and showing off his fidget spinner collection.

Sadly, I expect you are right. Despite his frankly appalling comments likening anyone or anything to Nazi Germany, (which IMO should be a summary dismissal offence right there) AND his lack of contrition, AND the public support for his dismissal, I also think the lily-livered idiots at the BBC will be weak and cave in.

No need to apologise. BTW there are many such polls, so I disagree that no inferences can be drawn. If it was a one-off then yes. But it is not.

Sorry but his comments were bang on - IMHO. The language being used by this government with regards to this particular issue ISN'T dissimilar to the language that was being used in 1930s Germany. No-one is suggesting that the government is going to end up killing millions of innocent people like the Nazis did but at the very least the language they're using is going to fire up the more extremist elements of our country and probably rope a fair few others in on top of that. I'm just surprised that Sunak signed off on it but he's clearly pandering to the far-right in his own party.

Fidget spinner haha.

I'm not quite sure, but I kinda like the NFL way of coverage highlights here in the UK, always just excited to discuss what happened.

Or follow what the Americans do when discussing games etc. they just seem to be less bland when doing things.

For instance, Lineker on BT Sport was a lot different on that show to BBC.

Shearer, seems to have like this restriction he has on MOTD taken from him when doing Amazon Prime. Less bland and boring.

Make it more modern, maybe add additional pundits for the show like Sky do,.
