Helen the bell ringer

i Don't know what year she died but i remember the date it was the 23rd September the same date that we tanked the scum 5-1 in 1989 i'm sure she will be looking down on us today ringing her bell fron that blue heaven in the sky. RIP Helen a true legend.

My dad knew her very well,he even stayed with her for a while.i will ask him and give you as much info about her as i can i do know she had a son and my grandad knew her well so i will get back to you guys.

I remember Helen well, she was and I mean this in the nicest way a right battle axe. No wonder Hitler didn't invade during the war. With women like Helen about the Third Reich would have been decimated! I remember once coming back from West Ham with few windows left in the coach after a bricking from their "fans", she organised things superbly so that the any vulnerable fans got the best seats. Good woman. RIP Helen.

I remember at Coventry in the early 80's.... she was sat in the Cov main stand and ringing her bell......... West Midlands finest dibble went in and took the bell off her..... City fans in the away end gave her our full backing and the next thing she pulled out of her bag a tiny bell and rang it - to great applause from us Blues.

She would come around the social club after home games with a bucket shouting ''coppers for the kids'' and wouldnt move from your side until you had put some money in the bucket!!

Ha ha I was on that coach, it started pissing it down when we got back on the M-way, 70 mph rain lashing through the broken windows! God bless her she did do her best to look after the kids on away trips, even if it was a bit of a nightmare on her coach at times.

My dad gave Helen that bell. I first heard it when we got to wembley in 1955 . my dad would ring it when he past our house on the train in Ardwick. he used it to collect money on the train to give to the driver . You would not get that now.

Her and my grandad used to have some right banter outside maine road, then he started taking me and she quizzed him as to why he'd want me to brought up a blue! (in that jokey city humour we seem to have lost)
RIP Helen
