Helen the bell ringer

Remember Helen if i didn't see her at Main Road i always heard her. I remember that she went with the team on their victory lap after winning the 1976 League Cup Final, (never seen it done by anyone else since). I also remember an over head goal by Tueart loads better than that fat twats effort, (not that, that was anything).

I remember Helen fondly.

From ringing that bell to marshalling the away coaches. Not to mention her charitable work.

Legend.

I look forward to hearing the bell ring once again.

i have just read pages 1_7 and i will catch up with the rest tomorrow, i am not an emotional guy but this thread has brought a lump to my throat. i use to see helen at the entrance to the hospital when i was young and i loved the sound of the bell. always made me smile RIP Helen

I was sat about 40 yards from her.

If i close my eyes, i can still vividly hear that bell in my head.

i have alot of memories from Maine Road, from the smell of the ground to parking up and getting asked for 50p to 'mind the car', but helens bell is up there as one of my main memories.

Helen is / was probably the most famous 'ordinary' supporter in the country.

Of any team.

What I mean is, she's only known for being a City supporter; not because she was some sort of celebrity.

I've seen fans of other teams coming on to City forums asking about her, so well known was she.

I've posted this story before in 73 ishwe got battered by forest in the cup 4-1, Sunday game train strike city got hammered in and outside ground. I was 15 Helen stood on corner of a main road which led to the coach park lookin forcity boys who had been caught up at end of road where hundreds of forest had blocked our path back tothe coaches. She told about 50 of us to group together and stickright behind her, she then led us thru over 500 of forests top boys threatening any of them who dared tocome near us with her other famous accessory the city brolly. I remember her telling me she had been to watch palacethe week before ( big mal fan ) and had done the same for a load of palace fans. This woman ISA legend. Nothing can ever touch her, only Colin and Joe mercer come close

was she an organiser of A coach or what?! Remember sitting on the coach at Maine Rd ready for going.A couple got on but there was no 2 seats together for them. She told these 2 lads sat seperately to sit together so the couple could be sat next to each other.
Linking my arm around the early 90's at Palace away.
Selling the programme outside the North Stand, think it was at that Travel Club shop.
As for ringing the bell when we win something.Would they allow it at COMS with all this Health and Safety going about? Would be great to hear it though.
