Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

I remember Sheffield United away mid 80s when the miners strikes were on, city fans singing get to work you lazy twats and Arthur Scargill what a wanker, the 2nd song nearly caused a riot as 3 sides all rose as one !!! Kept in after the game for what seemed an eternity whilst Sheffield constabulary tried in vain to clear the hordes of angry Yorkshire folk and then subjected to a battering anyway by riot shields and batons by the not too happy police !!!!!
Staylbridge at Frickley was worse , lads tried to take refuge in the dressing rooms and the Frickley players even joined in the mayhem !!!

Me and 2 mates walked through their mob going back to the car, absolutely shitting it hoping not to be sussed. There was a door in the far top corner of the stand behind the goal, which we got out through, while all the other blues were still locked in.

BBC News report.

City & United.

I actually remember that clip, or rather the reference to changing footwear fashions, which I thought at the time was a little preposterous as hooligans hadn’t been wearing boots for a decade before that incident.

Also, was a bit weird hearing Witchell talk for more than ten seconds without saying something nauseatingly obsequious about the Royal Family.
