Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Yes was there, my car was parked where city coaches was, opposite Hunslet rugby ground, was fun getting back, and going home to doncaster on the M62 2 car load of leeds saw we was city fans and try to scare us with coming up to car trying to force us off onto the grass, but I had a old cortina and I pushed 1 up the inbankment other car fucked off.Got into donny and my mate went to get a green un ( football paper ) near train station when leeds train pulled in, never seen him run so fast but he made it to the car
Strangely enough, I had relations in Doncaster/Rossington, we drove, over and picked up my 2nd cousin from Rossington and went from there to Leeds, parking at the Greyhound/Hunslet stadium. You’re right it was a bit lively.

Same for me. I got 25p a week spends but me Dad gave me 50p when City were at home.

The majority of the games I went to at Maine Road in the 80's I got in for free as my dad was a bus driver and would drive the football special from Piccadilly to the ground.

We would also go to the same turnstile at the windy corner and he would flash his bus drivers badge and we would both be waved though!

Rossington is about 5 miles from me, I do know a couple of city fans who live there

I never remember them doing much at Maine Road when I was a young teen but they were a different proposition on their own ground.
I remember going to a Leeds v West Brom third replay in the league cup at Maine Road one night, just checked it was October 1978. I originally went down to buy a ticket for a future City game and thought I'd stay and watch this game. It was abysmal and I met a couple of lads I knew from Wythenshawe who were there for a scrap with Leeds. I was in the north stand but we jumped into the Kippax where Leeds were and had a bit of a skirmish with them, they absolutely shit themselves at first lol.
After the game there was a big mob of young City lads led by Debbie and her boyfriend waiting for Leeds. These three big beer monsters with Leeds scarves came across the road, laughed and rolled their sleeves up. Insanity, within seconds they were swamped and got absolutely battered. A bizarre night all round.
Yep, Leeds wasn't a good place to go ..... they were always well up for trouble, even before the game, and they seemed to have thousands of yobs ...... that three mile walk (or run!) back to the train station after a match there was always a nightmare experience, to say the least!

And in the 70s the cops after a match there were only conspicuous by their absence ....

Before one game there a mate of mine was feelin' a bit peckish as we walked from the station to the ground and left our police escort to get a burger from a food van near the ground, even though i pleaded with him not .... but they had 'clocked' him and, as he reached the food van, he was suddenly whacked on the head from behind by a Leeds fan carrying a metal pole .... he ended up unconcious and in hospital missing not only the match, but also the next few days!!!

Loved them two FA cup aways. Proper old days.
Yes they were only time I've had a knife pulled out on me though, was on a main rd about half a mile from the ground there was a coach of city fans going past ( from Salford) slowly they saw what was going on all piled off and kicked the shit out of this lad and his mates, thankfully for me and my mate.

Had knives pulled on me in Liverpool twice and weirdly at QPR away one night game (Chelsea lads though) Once by 3 reds in Moss Side too.

Not a great experience and I've had dreams about those experiences ever since.

You don’t forget these sort of things. I saw a stabbing outside Anfield in 81 and a slashing at Lime Street before another LFC match. The victims were both City fans. Most people have no idea how bad it used to be.

Blue and red dippers were a fucking nightmare for knives. Hate both sets of fans.

On the flip side of this is i was witness to a dipper getting carved up from city during a clash with them after a game a Maine Rd late 80s.
Typical dippers started that off but soon did a runner as City went through them

There was a small mob of Liverpool once on Claremont road near the shops mid to late 90's...backs to the wall not running fuck all. They sneaked off as dibble arrived to protect them. Got away with it the cunts. Citys mob wasnt what it once was even then.

That’s because virtually everytime we’ve played them they’ve been their toes
I remember going to Elland road, must have been late eighties. Neil Mcnab scored a penalty from what I recall and the Leeds fans on our right shot a firework into the City fans above us.
Bit dicey before and after the game.

Anyone remember the City fan slashed across the face with a Stanley knife 78 79? I think it was on the front page of the MEN, a copper holding him up, me & my mates walked past him, horrific, one inch wide wound right across his face
