How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Tim Martin is no oaf.
You could say that he was/is a man of the people as he voted with the (slim) majority of people to leave the E.U. A debate on which he should have remained silent.
I think he is honest in his beliefs even though he has been wrong on more than one occasion.
My advice to him is to stay out of politics and concentrate on his business.

Hope he loses every penny and his business gets taken over by a Remainer.

I always thought his position on Brexit was well considered form a personal business perspective in that after about 5 years, these would be the only places that people would be able to afford to eat and drink.

In retail news …..following the Weatherspoon announcement on the sale of 32 pubs Poundland has just announced it will soon rebrand as Tennerland. Discount Warehouse is considering its position.

A classic comment. It’s relevance to Brexit….?

He was a Brexit cheerleader - he claimed Spoons would go from strength to strength post Brexit - never mentioned the closures he would have to make - though you already know that anyway

Do you see this as a brexit bonus or a loss to the communities in which it operates?
Depends if you think the average Wetherspoons brought much to the community bar a place for old pisspots to be able to have a full English and a pint at 10am.
The thousands of real community pubs that have had to close over the years due to not being able to compete with Wetherspoons will be more of a miss I suspect.
Not withstanding the fact that Tim is a ****.

The Spoons in Boro is the one nearest to the ground, and limited choice in that area. The Harrow one has a lot of football traffic too for finals. The Watford one is the Lloyds bar on the main street with loads of bars so not a big miss. Not been or remember going to any others.

The 'thousands of real community pubs' are probably more under threat from the discount beer prices in supermarkets.
As I said Mr. Martin would be better advised leaving his politics outside his pub doors.
Politics and religion are two things best not discussed in pubs generally.

My point was it’s nothing at all to do with Brexit. A categorical mistake is arising as people blame brexit for everything.
Agree it’s not a direct effect of Brexit. It’s more a consequence of government actions made much easier by not being in EU. I’m not sure if it counts as a Brexit benefit for the government to be totally free to screw up the economy as no EU rules apply.

Those continuing to think it was the right decision are definitely going to be the same people who will happily vote for the Tories next time around.

A Venn diagram would make interesting (or not) viewing…

Except, of course, that almost all the EU rules still apply!

A vent diagram sounds like an interesting idea at this point
