I broke my leg last week, advice on how to cope with six weeks of inactivity welcomed.

I got up eventually and my leg could take the weight, just, but it was excruciating. I hobbled a bit and as it was pissing down I had no one to help, or laugh at me. I did consider, for a second, phoning an ambulance, but then thought, fuck, what if someone really needs one and they come for me and that person croaks? So, phone back in pocket and I try to walk down the very steep hill to the street.

I will admit, it was not the best experience, but I finally made it down and phoned my lovely who came for me and took me to hospital. It was a break, my ankle was not broken but fucked as was my Achilles.

It has been a week and I have been told no back to work for another five weeks.

Has anybody any advice on how to fill the time? Tips for getting around? There’s a prize for the best suggestion. Although it will be shit, it’s still something.

Also, if you want to explain how you broke a limb, feel free. We could set up a support group. Or you could, I hate that sort of shit.

sorry to hear about your injury fella.

Best thing I can say is just keep your mind active, if you can do some upper body exercises your laughing.

I can send over some Rangers DVD's for you to watch as well.
 
As this seems to be the medical thread, I had the best news of the year yesterday.
I may have mentioned before, but in January I had a below-knee amputation of my right leg.
I was told yesterday that, as the wound site was almost healed, They will be measuring me up for a prosthetic leg very soon. Apparently, they take about 3 weeks to make, then I should be walking again instead of being in a wheelchair!
It's a good job I pay for my seasoncard by direct debit, so my seat is secured for next season. I've only been to one match this season, but the ticket exchange system has sold all bar 2 of the ones I've missed.
I'm ecstatic with the news. Walking again after 5 months!

I've been back on crutches 3 times in 5 months. I'd have rather broke it. I've had about 9 weeks off work in that period. Fecking nightmare as I'm self employed.

Just had my results back today. My meniscus is torn in two places. An operation is needed. The first thing I asked was how long the recovery is?. 12 weeks, 6 with a brace to keep my knee secure and another 6 for healing. Depressed.

I had the misfortune of torn meniscus a few years ago, had the op and recovery and can't even remember which knee it was now, get it done mate.

Sounds about right, I probably tried to do too much after about 9 weeks as it was feeling fine but I didn't really take the physio too seriously.
That might have set me back a month but no one to blame but myself.
That was about 4 or 5 years ago now and I have no pain or limitations on movement, so you'd be in for a frustrating few months but real long term gain.
I'd recommend getting it done asap so you can get back to normal.
