'If It's Not Broke, Don't Fix It'

I made this point after the Arsenal game, also the fact he took off Dzeko and it brought Arsenal back into the game as everyone said.

I'm sorry but I'm asking questions of Mancini once again. This 3-5-2 formation he has a massive obsession with. IT IS NOT WORKING. We haven't played well at all this season. Tonight has been on the cards, it's been coming. Hopefully this is a kick up the arse. Tonight is what Sunday could and probably should have been, he's tinkering with the squad and once again making bizarre substitutions and tactical errors.

If it's not broke, don't fix it. Were going backwards as we play each game, tonight was dreadful and probably the worse game under Mancini.
We should have beaten Arsenal. But tonight was a bad night.

Yer bein' positive, Marvin. It wasn't just bad, it was abysmal. Tens of millions of pounds of talent on the pitch and the look of a side who had been introduced to each other a quarter of an hour before kick-off.

Its a joke the defence is at the moment. IF Mancini continues this it will cost us big time this season. I too argee with the OP about his views. Were nowhere near the defence of last season we won the title last year by goal difference. Well this season the way we are defending we wont win any title this season.

I think for the next few games time to keep a settled back 4 and get back to basics of clean sheets and winning games. I dont think we will be in the running this year for the title if we continue this 3-5-2 system. Name me a English team to have won the league with 3 at the back cause I cant think of any off the top of my head. We are playing in the most competitive league in the world.

I'm sure one of the great liverpool teams played 3 centre backs away from home.

Arsenal's famous back four was actually 5 men at the back in 1988/89 with O'Leary as sweeper and they won the league with it.

Corky mate your going back to the 80s man the game is more dynamic now than it was back in the 80s. Now its just a minefield for 3 in centre backs. To be honest we need smart centre backs to play a 3 at the back in my opinion. Kompany is fine whats left at the club is a big question mark. We do miss Richards in the backline be it as a right back or as part of a 3 which is what I think Mancini is thinking about doing. Having Kompany in the middle Lescottt on the left and Richardson the right but for the life of me I just cant see it ever working. I think we will find out more by the end of next month.

I just hope Mancini sees it isnt working and revert back to a back 4. Hell its going into October and we havnt had 1 clean sheet the signs are there. Its not working time to go back to a back 4.

werent we 4 at the back vs arsenal , first time real madrid , stoke etc ?

as far as i can remember we only played one premier league game with 3 men backline , liverpool , where we conceded 2 goals from free kicks , hardly formation fault.

No side has won the premier league playing 3 at the back.

are we playing 3 at the back into the premier league ?

I've been ranting about this three at the back since the summer. In fact I ranted about it when it got us knocked out the CArling Cup last year.

You know why he's doing it? He's trying to be clever. He knows it's having a little resurgance and wants to be seen as a cutting edge tactician. He hasn't made allowances for two factors:

1) Our players don't suit the formation.
2) We are trying to bed in a load of new young players.

But he's a stubborn fucker, he'll keep going with it.

You've just said yourself we did against Liverpool. And the more we keep it as an option, the more likely at some point we will again

The point is - we need consistency, top quality english sides are consistent in defence - they dont change formations regardless of competitions.

At various times this season we have played 3-5-2, 4-2-2-2, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, 4-2-4 and 4-3-1-2. Ridiculous.

I don't see why 3 at the back is such a big issue. It doesn't really explain why players lose possession on the edge of our area (Razak), barry puts through his own net, or players head the ball clear at corners straight to opponents

If I were mancini, I'd give the players some reassurance now and remove all complications and stick to what they are most comfortable with.
