Inter Milan (N) | Champions League Final | Post Match Thread

And that's how it should be. All this talk of dominating this competition from now on is bollocks. Nobody except Real Madrid dominates The European Cup. It is all the biggest and best clubs priority, making it by far the hardest to win. Domination is almost impossible.
No, it's not. Not whilst Pep is here anyway.
We are City.

We would dominate the competition from here on. I see us retaining the title next season

The mantra seems to be that we didn't play well - that we got lucky on the night - such statements are rubbish. Inter played well - they went man to man all over the park, they closed down quickly, disrupted our passing lines and most of all blitzed Rodri. To counter that we had to play well - sometimes not as fluently as we have done on other occasions - but that was down to Inter and the way they played - not City playing badly. We coped with it, we still created chances - and in the end we scored with a classic City goal - probing the defensive lines - pulling them left, coming out again when the gaps closed and then switching into the spaces that had been created on the right to make room for Rodri to come storming in. After that we were always going to have to hold tight - Inter were going to come at us and everyone was going to have to defend - they did brilliantly - Ok a bit scarily at times, and if Phil could have put that chance away it would have been a bit more comfortable - but these are the two best teams in Europe at this point in this season - it was never going to be easy - and you don't overcome a team like Inter whilst playing badly.
not just the energy, the quality of Inters' press was the highest we have faced, good post mate

My respect for Inter and Inzaghi has gone up and I very much hope the english media take note as well. Fantastic coach and team.

Forgot how bad the headache is after champagne, I didn’t drink too much though cos all the United and Scouse lot said it’s only an asterix treble and something about 115 charges.

So what shall we talk about? I have 5 cans left and tomorrow is the day of peace.

By the way, I thought Cancelo's performance was shocking. It was almost as if he wasn't there.
Cancelo not being able to defend was a big factor in pep going with the 4 cb’s and stones new role. Thanks mate -:)

It was a horrible game but we found the strength to get over the line and deserved it from our performances in this competition over the last few years. Inter were limited but very good at what they do. Many of our players were suffering from nerves. As Rodri put it, there stomach was in their heads. Class won it for us, the goal beautifully executed.

Just to highlight John Stones, whilst others were struggling with individual performances, he was majestic. In a new role he often looked the best player on the pitch. Pep was right all those years ago about the size of his cojones. Great to see and just reward for his hard work and dedication to the team.

I have to admit getting wet around the eyes when listening to the players obvious love for the club. Walker in particular but Rodri and Grealish too. Heartfelt emotion and an obvious bond.

Well done everyone in Istanbul. A credit to the club, fans, players and staff alike.

What a time to be a Blue.

We had to fight and dig in to win. Fair play to inter. I didn’t like how they approached the game but city had to win that game. It wasn’t handed to us by playing beautiful football but a hard 90 min slog.

On a separate note, Kev has been off for the boil with a hamstring problem for over a month. It’s no coincidence that erling has also struggled to score. We need another player or Foden needs to step into that role. The drop off when Kev is not on point is the big difference to us winning by 3/4 goals.

Anyway, who cares. Love the robust battling qualities we have for such a star laden team. Very humbling.
