IPTV

All this IPTV business goes right over my head.
I paid a guy £120,gave him my fire stick,he gave it back a day later and it's literally sky TV with about 500 extra channels, any football match you could think off is on there.
The best £120 I've ever spent.
Had it for 2 years it's never once gone off.
My question is,is there any way to block the porn channels?? My youngest has figured out how to use remote and don't want her to see it.

Not really.
Premiumize is a lot more expensive than RD, at 70 Euro a year, rather than the 32 euro that RD costs for a year.
True you get some extra features that RD doesn't offer, such as newsgroups links, but personally I don't feel the extras outweigh the cost
I was with RD about a year ago. As I understand, the French(?) authorities clamped down on them and RD was restricted in what it could do. Has it returned to its previous service level? If so when my current subscription is up I will consider going back to RD.

Speak to the guy you get it off, they probably have a no porn option. Failing that, manually rename the channels to some boring shit your kid will never click on. Like MUTV

£120 is a bit OTT. I pay £45 for 2 subscriptions. But consistency of service is key, so if it's had no problem in 2 years, stick with it.

It was down for a day and then went back to normal.
People jumped ship asking for refunds etc. and subsequently got banned.

Depends on what app you're using. If it's the Smarters app, go into the settings and look for a Parental Control option.
You should see a list of channels with a padlock next to them, just click the padlock next to the porn channels and it will hide them from the main menu

On my newer app, if you go in to settings, there's an option to hide VOD, Movie and Series categories. I use it to get rid of many of the foreign channels. Just run down the channels and tick.

Hahahahaha fella I know just decided fuck it I’ll see what deal he could get from sky but was still under contract, phoned them up and told them he was going to get a dodgy box/stick unless they give him a better deal than his existing one, they told him your still under contract for 6 months or so we can’t do anything yet,he said dead on he’s fucking them off shortly..

Never had a problem with RD, best 16 euros every 6 months I've ever spent for Movies and TV.
For sport I have a Smarters IPTV subscription from DHgate which costs about £8 quid for 12 months, it's a Universal sub and not specifically UK based but you still get all the channels you need and more.

For backup I use Kodi and the usual sports plugins plus Firesportstv as a standalone fire stick plugin.
With that setup I've never missed a match in years.

Re Kodi on Firestick - mine does a weird thing where I’ve downloaded it, stuck a few apps on it and everything’s sweet for a few weeks then all of a sudden all the apps disappear and everything is blank and it does that annoying “shhh” sound every time I press the button.

Anyone know wtf that is and how to stop it doing it?

Just fucked sky tv and broadband off. Got iptv, vpn, and will pay for netflix for the kids.
This way can fuck off the tv license too.
Any suggestions for a decent broadband?

You don't need Netflix either. Set up stremio and you'll get access to any shows you want regardless of platform

Has anyone ever noticed that things like IPTV and Kodi are purely for blokes. Women don't seem to be interested in how it works.
The TV remote is male territory.

My missus would just pay for everything if she was on her own.
Then again I don't know how the dishwasher or the washing machine works....

Another blokey thing is barbecuing. Been to loads, never seen a woman doing it.

And blokes are always too warm to put the heating on.
Sorry drifting off topic.

Funny old world innit.
:)
On my latest box i've set the iptv app as 'favourite' so the breadknife can get it on by pressing 1 button on remote.
Took her 3 seasons to master the old remote...

Well They going down the same path as the firestick! Think the IPTV apps will be ok but can see they’ll start rejecting these apps in the Google store! Something different will come out where Linux will be mainly the box people will go to..

Google will start blocking unverified sideloaded apps on Android devices

August 27, 2025

In what may be the most significant threat yet to Android’s openness, Google has announced its plans to “require all apps to be registered by verified developers in order to be installed by users on certified Android devices.” This policy applies even to sideloaded apps that aren’t distributed through the Google Play Store. For an app to be installed by any means on a certified Android device (i.e., one with Google services like the Google Play Store), developers will be required to verify their legal name, phone number, and address, and register their app’s package names and signing keys, among other steps. The move effectively removes anonymity for developers, a core aspect of the modding and tinkering community that has long been part of Android’s appeal.

While Google says these new heavy-handed restrictions are meant to improve security, many see them as a way to tighten its grip on Android more than ever before. The timing is notable, as Google recently lost its appeal in a major antitrust case and was ordered by the court to allow third-party app stores within the Play Store, among other concessions. These alternative app stores, along with all other non-Play distribution methods, rely on sideloading, which makes the new restrictions seem like an effort to undermine the very freedoms the court ruling was intended to protect.

Google will be creating a new Android Developer Console, separate from its existing Play Store Developer Console, where it will require sideload-only app developers to verify their personal information by uploading various government documents. Once the developer’s identity has been verified by Google, the developer must register every app package name they use, along with the signing keys the developer uses to package each app. For existing package names (i.e., apps that are already in use), developers will need to jump through additional hoops to prove ownership of the app.

Developers will not be required to upload the actual app they want to distribute outside of Google Play. While the Google Play Store requires every app version to be submitted and individually approved by Google, the new Android Developer Console only requires that a package name and its signing keys be linked to a verified identity. Developers may submit dummy/empty apps for the verification process, as long as they use the same package name and keys for the real app they distribute.

Google says it “will be confirming who the developer is, not reviewing the content of their app.” While that may be technically true, the stated goal of the new system is to weed out bad actors, and the only way to identify bad actors is by reviewing the content of their apps. Even if the initial registration process does not involve app reviews, they will still be part of the system and will give Google the ability to block any sideloaded app it considers unwanted based on vague policies.

Google will start implementing these new restrictions on Android sideloading in September 2026. The requirements will first go into effect in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. It says it “will continue to roll out these requirements globally” in 2027 and beyond. Google has not stated if users will be able to bypass these restrictions by disabling or opting out of certain Android settings, like they can do today for apps flagged by Google Play Protect.

While these upcoming restrictions will likely take effect on Android phones first, it is reasonable to assume they will eventually extend to Android TV and Google TV devices as well. Streaming devices that include the Google Play Store, such as those from Onn, Nvidia, and Xiaomi, could one day be restricted in terms of which apps can and cannot be sideloaded. Android-based streaming devices that do not come with the Google Play Store, such as Fire TVs and uncertified generic Android TV boxes, will likely remain unaffected by these changes.
