Is our scouting system falling apart?

With Mike Rigg joing QPR as their new technical director with a mandate to reinvigorate their international scouting system, and Brendan Rodgers recruiting both Barry Hunter and Dave Fallows from our scouting team, where does that leave us?

Is this a concern for us, do we have replacements, is our scouting system in safe hands?
Your Nan could be City's scout. Being the scout at a top club is one of the easiest jobs in football. Everyone knows who the best players are. You can be a scout for City from your PC. When you're a top club families/schools/junior football clubs/local FA's/coaches and important people from all around the world phone you up about talent; it falls in your lap.

Being a scout at a club in the lower parts of the Prem and down the leagues is a proper scouting job. Where you know you'll only have a certain amount of money to spend and you have to go out and find real untapped talent all around the world.

FIFA 12 is all you need ;)

Just put age position you want in the search part and bobs your uncle ;)

Actually I think this is Riggs set up... :))

the best coach in the world will not turn a donkey into a footballer.
We dont have the best coaches in the world, but all they get to coach is what the english scouting system throws up. Until that changes there is no justification in scouting in the UK, all you get is Ched Evans clones.
The problems with development in england have been around forever it wont suddenly change,
The world-class set-up at the Etihad will take years to bear fruit but at least it's a start, in the meantime buying ready-made super-stars is the way forward ( a la Real Madrid ) which means dealing with agents who have scouts on their contact lists
Whatever you think about the NFL, their clubs set the highest standards in many areas, from sports sciences to PR, from stadiums to community involvement. They also value excellence in all areas, from coaches to caterers, from CEO to groundsmen . I believe the Sheik has the same philosophy.
City can grow into something not seen before, a byword for excellence in sport and business. The Sheik will demand nothing less

Scouts only scout what clubs want them to scout, if a manager wants an Emile Heskey clone then it's their job to scout just what is wanted. It's the the development of players that is of a low standard not the scouting.
The rest of your post is great though

Those scouts leaving may be good but they are just simply English, looking at the lower leagues and the obvious in Europe.

For our club now we need to be looking abroad too, to get the likes of Rekik, Suarez and Roman. It can only go onwards and upwards!

There are models to be followed like Benfica's courting of South American talent, but problems may occur such as language barrier, attractiveness of Lisbon in comparison to Manchester.

Work permits?

theres a lot more barriers than just work permits with s american yths

portugal and spain give them dual nationality

we'd be better forging links with s american clubs rather than a set scouting network

just read an article by Rigg on what he wants to do at qpr - in a nutshell he wants to put in a shit hot database of players, and wants it done by the end of next season, watch out City, barcelona etc you are battling against mike rigg's fucking database in your search for the world's best players

PMSL so he wants all the scouts to play Football manager then.

Take the piss all you like

Our player acquisition dept take it seriously. They produce in depth dossiers on every player they purchase or want to, on every aspect of their lives. According to Marwood the last youth player who came to City his was over 45 pages

have to agree, the scouts do not decide what type of player, they are given specific types, watch them and then report, after that they have no further part, so i was blaming the wrong guys.

I hope Rigg, and the two that fucked off to the dippers haven't got a copy of our scouting database on their memory sticks. Be worth more to their new clubs than just them alone.

the point I am making is that if all he can say in his article is that he wants a big fuck off database sorting out by the end of his first year then he may well not be the world's best scouting director. If you look at the players City have brought in over the last 2 or 3 years I cannot think of many (any?) who have come in as relative unknowns uncovered by Mike Rigg - Yaya? David? Mario? Edin? Sergio? They were all well known before we signed them, so frankly I struggle to see who Rigg brought in for us? (but I will grant you this, he has a fucking massive database)

Changes are happening on the QT. Anyone else know about this?
