Something I need to get off my chest.

I keep hearing we only won the league on goal difference, panic panic. We amassed 89 points last season, it doesn't really get a whole lot better than that. The record in a 38 game season is I believe 93 points amassed by Chelsea in one of the Jose years.

We have strengthened regardless of new signings. We have one of the best strikers in the world fully committed ( fingers crossed ) to the cause this year. We have also gained that winning mentality, self belief, momentum and fighting spirit from winning the title last season. We didn't have the same mentality at the beginning of last season yet we won it, there is nothing stopping us doing the same again.

Having said all that, I would like one or two new arrivals in the next week to provide a little extra competition for places as this would keep the squad on it's toes and leaves less room for complacency to creep in. If that doesn't happen I still believe we are well set to have another tilt at the title. It saddens to see so much complaining when we have just won our first title in 44 years.

I don't understand where all the negativity and panic is coming from.
We have a great squad that needs the smallest of tweaks - unfortunately these 'tweaks' are not easy to find,if and when they become available, then i am fully optimistic they will be purchased,at a price and on the terms that suit and make sense.

The 'deadwood' is being shifted and,in reality,we need a centre half only, still a week to go folks....
Really need a deep lying play maker imo possibly more than a cb.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11679/8014537/Mancini-coy-on-transfer-plans" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www1.skysports.com/football/news ... sfer-plans</a>

Roberto Mancini expects Manchester City to be involved in some transfer activity in the next week but is keeping quiet over any potential targets.

The Premier League champions have had a quiet summer in the transfer market with Jack Rodwell, signed from Everton for a reported £15million, their only acquisition.

They continue to be linked with a number of other players before next week's deadline, including Swansea winger Scott Sinclair and Roma's Italy midfielder Daniele De Rossi.

Mancini, whose side travel to Anfield this weekend, said: "We have another week but I think today for us it is important to think about Liverpool.

"I am sure we will do what we want in one week.

"We are working, we can't say a name or how many players, but in the last days we will be working."
Expensive

Another player reportedly of interest to Mancini is versatile Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez but the City boss claims he is too expensive.

The Spaniard, also a rumoured target for Bayern Munich, is thought to have a £31million release clause in his contract.

Mancini, speaking at a press conference to preview the Liverpool fixture, said: "It is difficult, his cost is too big. It is too high for me.

"I repeat, we have another week, I think we will do something in this week but for me it is more important to think about Liverpool."

One player Mancini categorically claims he is not interested in is Chelsea defender David Luiz.

He said: "I read about it in a newspaper but it is not true. I think David Luiz is young and a fantastic player, but it is not true."

Hearing the boss saying we only have 19 players alarms me. That's a very thin squad considering how many games we have ahead of ourselves.

I thought, after the chairman's interview early on in the summer, that the "little tweaks" we needed meant getting two or three top class players perfecting our staring XI and at the same time of course making the sqaud deeper.

You can't say that mate, you'll get lambasted on here for telling the truth....

When did we sell de Jong? Mancini has just said he's staying.

i've been at work but did he not say "nobody is leaving till we get someone in"
or something like that.
either way IF we start the season with this squad minus nige we are fucked.

How pathetic is that?
Yes it would be nice to have had another couple of suitable big name players, but if we could have had this squad, minus Nige, even a few weeks before the start of last season, we would have been fricking delighted. If we have it this year we will still contend for the title. We are fucked only if we have injuries in key areas.

Here Here well said

If Tevez is fully commited and I think he is then that is a major step forward, we didn’t really have him last season, - unfit at the start, missing in the middle and not fully match sharp at the end.

Nasri improved as the season went on and now he looks like the player we wanted

To sign players to go straight into our team they would have to be something very special, top players wont come to sit on a bench.

If we do get Sinclair then we get the pace we wanted and he won’t expect to be main man from the start

Yes we do need a CH, but to get another DM he would have to be better than NDJ or young and prepared to wait his time like Rodwell

Seems Bob is confident in increasing numbers over the last few days of the window.

In the latest press conference he strikes me as being very relaxed and even a little smug re the transfer situation, as though he knows things are sorted.

I wonder if we will see us use a strategy of loans rather than buys? Bob obviously has a lot of links in Italy and may look at pulling a few strings?

and the AN cup and barmy sendings off and playing on 4 fronts etc.

In managing the squad I would like to see Silva used a little more astutely this season, to avoid the burnout factor. I would rest him now and then and even use him off the bench. A fresh Silva would make a massive difference to the outcome of the season.
