No way Messi’s lawyers are preparing a statement that says “oh yeah we were wrong and La liga was correct so he’s got to stay”

Surely this can only be an acknowledgement of La Liga position and that they don’t agree and are willing to go to court”

If that happens then Barca are on a hiding to nothing because they won’t say OK let’s go to court...mind you they are stupid.

According to wiki:
Free agents can be signed by a club at any time during the season, if they had been released by their previous club before the end of the transfer window.

So if that is correct, he has cancelled his contract during the transfer window & would be able to sign for us, after the window shuts, if he is correct legally re his contract.

Whilst wiki isnt the best source, thats probably fair.
Ie if you are a genuine free agent because youve been deregistered at the window, you can sign for anyone at any time.
But you cant buy out your contract midseason and start playing for someone else as you are still registered to another club until the next window

So RMC are just quoting Sphera Sports who I have no idea who they are, I think they're just trying to wing a 50/50 decision.

Stay calm.

Why would they release a statement about that? They'd just stay. If anyone commented on it, it wouldn't be the lawyers either, it would be Messi or his dad.

You don't need lawyers to write a letter saying, "OK we give in".

They have to release a statement. They can't just stay and ignore all this has happened. They need to reconfirm their intentions through a statement. He obviously wants to leave so he isn't going to sign a new deal.

I know it's a stretch but if the reason he is staying is because of the issue with his contract then I can (just about) see why they'd use a response to La Liga as the platform to do so. Something like "I wanted a new challenge but due to the position of Barca and La Liga I have no choice but to remain" or words to that effect.

If it was all positive for Barca then they would announce it, so I don't think it's that and certainly not a new contract. Im just playing devils advocate that might not be what we're assuming, and it might be a reluctant admission based on La Liga's position.

I'm grasping it straws to see both sides of it, I guess.

This thread is really starting to develop a pattern_

Tolmie comes online and says everything is good.
20 pages of celebration.

Some random newspaper anounces he's staying.
50 pages of panic.

Tolmie comes online and says everything is good.

etc. etc.

You missed the part where Tolmie has a bit of fun with a comment and chaos descends for 20 pages.

I’m remaining calm for now. If he’s already decided he’s staying, what is the need to respond to La Liga via the lawyers? Maybe there’s a legitimate answer to that but I don’t immediately see it.

Unless the replying to the lawyers bit is what’s BS. Ok, I’m panicking now.

Why in the world would he need to record a message to say he's staying? He could literally just turn up to training and that's that.

So if Messi doesn't do a 180 with his 'statement' & this does go to court, we could be on with this til Christmas.

Not sure how long it would take to get a decision on his contract.

Meh. Good news if it happens and whilst its disappointing its not totally bad news if he does stay

Don't bother trying to see both sides. They aren't equal. A bunch of journalists with close ties to the Messi camp all through this saga say he's about to release a legal response to La Liga.

Some no-mark news outlet says he's staying.

The two don't deserve equal consideration.
