A very interesting post.It relates to the psychology of a purchase.Agree with you, but am trying to understand the alternative.Say we had Mbappe, are you/we saying we could sign Haaland for less as we already have a great forward? Look at Mbappe/Neymar at PSG, having one didnt seem to make the other less expensive. Not sure this argument is correct, simply beacuase we are not the only club who needs a CF. I think it comes down to money, game time, trophy likelihood, affinity for the club and location, at least on the players part.

Love your name but hope you are not a snurge.

EDIT..one who sniffs bicycle seats !!!!
Never sniffed a Bicycle seat in all my life. Toilet seats are more my game.

it would leave us in the position of being very much in need and them thinking. How far can i get this north of the £75 million we get next year anyway. we no longer have the, wait until next year argument as we have shown our hand. So unless you have something stitched up already, it seems odd to let the rivals have that bit of info. They may well have already struck a deal, i have no doubt the people running the club know what they are doing. I just wish they would let me in on the plan ha ha ha

They need to cover 7 points for UCL places in 7 games. Not impossible as Frankfurt have difficult games but I feel this transfer is written in the stars.

This is a highly understated and underrated point about CFG management.

If you look at other professional sport leagues, even in the USA with wage caps, what is most often discussed as the most vital ingredient to any success is HOW WELL A CLUB IS RUN. Whether rich or poor.

Yes, a club's wealth is not irrelevant because no club can sustain being at the top without it, sadly, but that is the way it is.

HOWEVER, we can take a look at some "big" clubs have been tarnished by their poor management, hurting their reputations and outcomes on the pitch.

We have stuck to a model that I believe has benefited us, along with intelligent, well researched planning. I credit much of this to the Chairman, to identify the right scouts, managers, and coaches via the trust instilled in him by Sheikh Mansour.

The Chairman's clear professionalism and what I sense is willingness to work in a TEAM I believe is WHY we landed Txiki, Soriano and Pep. Not just because we had the most money to pay them. Pep is not here for that.

Even though we started as wild spenders after the takeover, the key, signings between 2008-11 were incredibly impressive, some made under the radar.

When Txiki and Soriano joined, yes some errors were made, but they were the one's to facilitate the transition to where we are now.

Again, there have been mistakes, but the signings we've made when knowingly operating at a loss is what is called investment in business.

Yes, Pep is pretty much a god of football management and we will miss him "so, so much" when he goes, but the foundations for the future are there and the intelligence in leadership within the club strikes me as reason to see a brighter future than some of our rivals that merely having the most wealth would not assure us of.
Spot on, theres a reason why liverpool and united are always sniffing round our backroom staff and offering to double their wages. They want a shortcut to what we have built
