You are confusing signing a striker and strengthening the squad.

If you just accept we play without a striker, and instead play with a front 5 who can largely interchange, its pretty obvious that adding a £100m player like Grealish (who was one of the best players in the league last year.) Is strengthening the side.

You can put our front 5 of Sterling, Grealish, Foden, Mahrez, Torres, KDB and Gundogan up against the attack of anyone in the league and it will score more goals.
Imagine that, football evolving & not playing with half backs & inside forwards anymore

He does accept it or he could sign any of 100 strikers in Europe.
no he can't! because they are not good enough for manchester city! what is this argument?

He tried to sign 1 world class striker who's build up play was good enough to fit in with the rest of the front 5, and he half heartedly went after a goalscoring winger.

Ronaldo is not a striker. He has never played as a striker, not at United, Real and definitely not at Juventus.

that is just factually wrong and a bizarre thing to say. i'm surprised that you say such verifiably false things

Yes.

Because Pep and Khaldoon and Txiki sat down and worked out a budget of how much we could spend this season, and Pep told them to sign Grealish for £100m even though it mean they didn't have enough for Kane after.
That’s not what happened

I think people are confusing "are you happy with the squad and think we are stronger this season", which to me the answer is unequivocally YES,

The post i replied to said we failed to strengthen the squad.

My response was that we have.

So if you think we did strengthen it im not sure why you're responding to me.

Becuase I think we both strengthened the squad and fucked up this window.

So if we only had one shot, surely our creative players didn’t create enough for any striker to have more than one shot no?

Maybe a striker would’ve made a difference, but it’s certainly not as black & white as you were staying with the FA Cup & CL comment pal

Do you not think that our resorting to high balls into the box when we have no target man somewhat affects that shot count? If we had a striker who had an aerial threat, Chelsea and Leicester couldn't have done to us what they did, it changes the whole dynamic.

I'm not getting overexcited or thinking we have no chance but acting like it wouldn't make a big difference is head in the sand stuff.

My definition of strengthening the squad isn’t to make it more balanced throughout. The best squad isn’t the ones with the best players necessarily, but the ones in which the weakest ones aren’t as weak as the weakest of your rivals. I’ve said before that while Chelsea doesn’t have as many talented players as ours, their squad is more balanced if you compare positions.

Of course a team can sign many players and it not work, but to hope that it will happen with all the teams that strengthened is a tougher ask
Who is stronger, Chelsea have added Lukaku, one player same as us,
united, have added players but not really where they needed them except centre back and have olly so still look disjointed, in europe PSG have added a few, including Messi we’ll see how that pans out.
can’t think of any other teams business that would concern me.

Yes it is.

Grealish had a fixed buyout. If they wanted kane more they would have spent the money on him and come back for grealish later.
We wouldn’t have spent more on Kane if we hadn’t spent on Grealish because we wouldn’t have massively overpaid for the Spurs player to meet levy’s valuation, that’s not how we operate

Our club was ready to sign a 36 year old ronaldo as an emergency option because they didn't have a plan B prepared. Here are strikers better than ronaldo. Martinez, dusan, felix, andre silva to name a few.
Not only are they not better than ronaldo, who I don’t think we pushed very hard for really. I don’t think any one of them improve the team we have. Though I like Felix not sure he improves the team we have now.

Thats so Ok. we shall go with the.. Its alright until it bites us in the arse again approach. We are supposed to be pushing on. Not treading water !!

Id say every article about our transfer window would suggest that we have indeed fucked up.. we needed a left back and a striker. Like the past three years really.. We spent £100 on a young Jack. Now im far from unhappy about that signing, but its not addressed the areas where we fell short last year has it.. So we go into this season with the same game plan.. and the same weaknesses. Chelsea have addressed there issues. United will have a dick full of confidence after signing Ronaldo. He will lift them this year. Us on the other hand are the pretty much the same team. A very good one. But one that Chelsea and United exposed a few times last season. Now they are our rivals for the 4 competitions and have improved.... Please explain the part you are not getting. Its pretty obvious tbh

As a previous post mentioned.. Even Pep has spent the last three years searching for a striker and failed.. So again. Even the club and the manager accept this is an issue. You dont offer £100m plus for a player you dont need. ????
Mate, it’s your opinion. There’s nothing I’m not getting at all. I simply don’t think it’s a fuck up. If we finish below 4th, I’ll agree it’s a fuck up. Until then, I completely disagree

If you want my reasoning, it’s quite simple. Pep. He’s an innovator & football has always evolved as a sport. I remember during his first season there was loads of ‘can’t play the Pep way in England’. I didn’t buy into that either as his genius was clear & it was obvious what he was trying to achieve

Chelsea added one player in a position they needed most, which was different than what we did, and who knows, might add another still. United clearly improved. Liverpool will be stronger naturally compared to last year. PSG. Bayern has a stronger squad too and it will take Nagelsmann a massive fuck up for it not to work. These are basically all of our realistic UCL rivals and even Madrid, which is still light years from what they wanna be, seem to be in a right direction.
