What does make me laugh is Villa fans saying he won’t leave because he’s a massive Villa fan.

If he’s ambitious and wants to play at the level he should be playing at then he’ll rightly leave.

I guess they’re a little blinded by it all but I don’t remember us being the same with SWP all those years ago.

yep we thought that with SWP

Both players have spent a fair bit of their careers on the left wing, with Grealish playing some games in centre midfield and Depay playing some games at centre forward. Irrespective of where their respective managers position them, what I mean is that they are quite similar in terms of their style of football. They both have explosive running power, excellent first touch in tight situations, and an ability to lead their teams. They also both play with an arrogance and swagger that make them Marmite characters.
Ah ok, gotcha. I misinterpreted your post as I thought you were implying that Depay is a cheaper alternative to Grealish, not that they had similar styles. Sorry dude.

Who do you think could be a cheaper alternative? I’m struggling to think of any that would have the same impact in both LW or CM, but I don’t watch as much football as I used to

Jack Grealish signs new five-year Aston Villa deal

Villa captain signs deal through to 2025 with significant pay rise and bigger buy-out clause after interest from Manchester United and Arsenal over the summer

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has committed his future to the club by signing a new five-year deal.

The 25-year-old was in demand with several clubs this summer, including Manchester United and Arsenal, after enjoying an excellent breakthrough season in the Premier League in which he scored eight goals to secure Villa's top-flight status.

Grealish's new Villa contract contains a significant pay rise, compared with his existing deal which expired in 2023, and also contains a bigger buy-out clause than his previous contract.

Grealish plays LW, Buendia plays RW.

This is not a buy to replace, but a buy to strengthen.

If anything, it means they are less likely to sell Grealish, they want to continue pushing.

When Sky Sports are literally the only outlet reporting a buy out clause, I would err on the side of caution.

No decent journalists/publications have actually confirmed the clause.

Until someone like John Percy confirms it from Villa's side or, if we progress with a deal and someone like Lee/Mullock/Gaughan/Blackburn confirms it from City's side, it's all conjecture.

I highly doubt you're getting Villa briefing their journalists that Grealish isn't for sale at any price when he's available with an undervalued release clause.
