ok he's no Barry but he did a good job today. whilst nige is at the club i'd be using him though.

ok ill bite.

"hes no barry" ????

completely different type of player, so yeah hes certainly no barry.

hes no aguero, hes no nasri, hes no clichy .

shall we continue?

I am almost a neutral..Oldham fan since 1960..but I have always had a City soft spot since Trautman was playing...have always hated United.......thats where I stand.

I thought Rodwell did great today....21 years old alongside Toure and Silva..???

Come on.....One "mistake" 80 yards from his own goal......having a laugh..

This kid could very well be Mancinis best signing........mark my words...

H ehas been brought in to take Barrys place......younger quicker..

had barry been fit the kid wouldn't have started.

Started with a brave tackle

Easy side passes here and there

Had one mistake that lead to their goal

He kept it very simple today, I don't know if its Mancini instructions or just how he likes to play.

i may be in minority but was not impressed with rodwell. think mancini put him in there because of the expected weak saints opposition but what an effort by the saints. thank goodness we won

he seems to me to be significantly below a de jong or barry or milner.

really hope he does not play much this year and gets better with reserves and in training and then maybe plays more next year.
agree, absolutely crazy decision to play him, average at best and no-where near as good as De jong in that position. nearly cost us the game.

-- Sun Aug 19, 2012 11:44 pm --

Milner likes to play as a CM, and started few games last season with Yaya and was OK.

He did what he had to, a solid debut just one dodgy pass. Obviously he probably wanted to play a solid game. Once he gets used to the team, the system and gets some confidence, hel start showing more on the ball, and can also make a few runs forward like yaya does.

Rodwell didn't set the game alight , but then he didn't do an awful lot wrong either , barring the one mistake that led to Southamptons second goal ..... great early tackle from the lad too , in the City area , to put the ball out for a corner as the Saints attacked our goal.

To be fair he probably performed better than David Silva!

Probably be sold before the transfer window closes!

seriously though It's not unreasonable to expect a bit more adventurous passing from an international standard player. There was something wrong in the midfield today especially the last 15 minutes. I'm not blaming Rodwell for that, he was completely outnumbered at times and the hardly ever criticised Jo Hart wasn't helping him, giving possession away nearly every time he gets the ball.
