I know he's young...I know he's only been with the squad a few days and believe me I really want him to be a success ,as I do all City signings....but to me he looked out of his depth...he couldn't cement his place in the Everton line up afterall...so why play him when you've got a world class player sitting on the bench who plays in that posistion....dangerous stuff from Mancini and it nearly cost us a game that we shoulda walked....I hope he doesn't go down in history as yet another City big money error....I will be stunned if he starts against Liverpool.

Bollocks!!

That whole post comes down to judging him before he played and then ignoring his performance yesterday
Some people still believe he was a Marwood signing which is stupidity itself but because they believe that they want him to fail

Sorry, but i just wasn't that impressed.
Bad mistake cost us a goal and lucky not to cost us any points. Otherwise, while i don't recall him giving the ball away on any other occasion, he rarely passed the ball forward and didn't move it quickly enough for me. All seemed a little slow and deliberate. I guess that is to be expected to be fair, as we play a higher paced passing game than he is used to.
Off the ball, he lacks the awareness and positional sense of Barry and De Jong. Too often there were gaps in the middle of the park that just weren't there for the majority of last season and i thought our back four looked more exposed than usual. Not saying that this is all Rodwell's fault, and he does need time to settle into the side, but i still think that this wouldn't have happened had Barry or De Jong played.
Is he good enough to play for City? Possible, given time. Is he in the same league as the players we currently have in his position? At present, certainly not.

absolute garbage

I'm sure others have probably said the same thing, but I liked the look of him yesterday. Of course, he played a sloppy pass which ultimately lead to a goal for Soton, but other than that he looked pretty assured and comfortable on the ball.

I imagine he will have gained plenty form that game and will be better for the experience. I'm sure he'll be glad he got his home debut out of the way too. As they say "the first day at school is always the hardest".

Onwards & upwards.

Everyone around me was very happy with his performance minus the error.

Just can't see what the motives are of these posters who are saying he was shit.

Very decent debut considering he's only been with us a week. He will play plenty this year as cover for defence and also midfield.

We look like we are going to play 2 up front. So that means 4 in midfield.

So for me ATM

Kun CT
Yaya Nasri
Barry NDJ

Yaya is wasted holding, so for me him and Nasri supporting Kun and Carlos.

I am not sure Nasri and Silva play well together. Nasri can also play deeper.
For me Silva and Tevez are often playing in the same channel.

If we are playing one striker then Silva can float well in space behind.

He looked good up until the error. He was devastated by it and lost his composure for a while after but then recovered. In the long run it will do him a lot of good to have made such an error because it will integrate him into the team much more quickly than if he cruised through the game. The rest of the squad will have an emotional investment in him after the mistake and that will bond him into the group.

Mario missed a sitter which was equally as costly but no thread for him!

very true. a terrible miss

thought he had an excellent game, bossed the midfield with accurate, confident passes. It was a game of three thirds: Southampton's zonal pressing system was efficient and confident, stunting City's fluidity. I thought they worked incredibly well as a unit, pressing all over the pitch, until the Nasri goal. After that they began to retreat, as Rodwell and co started dominating possession. The subs completely opened the game up, and the goals forced Mancini into a weird 2-5-3 – hence the carnage in the last 15. Great game, and Southampton look organised and confident, which is a really positive sign.
