Surely we've learnt from experience that you don't want to be buying from Everton. They're a nightmare to deal with as they only sell for a fortune. Look at Fellaini as well. You'd be looking at £25m as a starting price for McCarthy.
McCarthy, Stones, Barkley, Coleman i'd happily take off Everton but you wouldn't get any of them for less than 25 mill.
Dunne and Lescott were brilliant for us; for £12m, the Rodwell risk was worth taking. It didn't work out for a number of reasons, but we still got most of the fee back. Fellaini has been key to the rags bagging a CL place this past few months. Forget Coleman, we have Zabaleta and soon Maffeo; Stones has been consistently better this season than any of our central defenders, is 20 and will only get better. McCarthy owned United's midfield that had dominated our own only a few weeks earlier, and again is another who's proven in our league with considerable scope for improvement. Barkley is the rawest and riskiest of the three, but his default skillset could be refined to the extent where he's a useful player for a top club.
£25m for each would be fantastic investments; we paid £30m for a relatively ageing Fernandinho and gambled even more on Mangala. There is no reason you wouldn't get 5-10 years service out of each of them.
Buying the best proven talent from within your league is a formula that has worked for all of the greatest club sides of the modern era; why some people on here think such a policy is below us is baffling.
