I remember Umberto always had Kieth Bennett's mum Winnie Johnson ring up the radio station and talk about how she's never found Kieth's body who was killed by the moors murderers.
James H, absolute legend, moved down south I believe ?An unlikely combination that worked.
When I came home from my GF’s house at night I would sit in my car listening to James thinking I’ll give it ten more minutes and he’d hook me in till 1AM every time.
Loved his humour and vocabulary and the fact he is a blue cemented my view that he is one of my all time favourite broadcasters.
Don’t know about that, but I do still follow him on Twitter where he posts occasionally (where Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 seems to be the main object of his ire iirc).James H, absolute legend, moved down south I believe ?
Its a goal!! You could be certain it was not City.I only recall Stannage in the 90s and 2000s on Piccadilly.
Wasn't he on Pic in the 70s (when Jasper Carrott heard him and started talking about him in his live show)
What was he sacked for ???
My earliest memory of Pic is the Saturday football coverage , Phil Wood on Sunday mornings (late 70s) and that maggot Ray Teret.
After that it was Timmy Mallett's weekday evening show (with Chris Evans) and Dave Ward's nighttime weekday show.
Happy days!
There was also that Rag called HankWas it flat cap Mike who used to ring in all the time who was a blue defending our corner? Him and Nolan used to have some funny ding dongs with each other. Remember him referring to rag goal keeper Kevin Pilkington as Kevin Pillock, which was more funny than it should have been.
Used to love the paranormal show once a month. Experts in ouija boards UFOs and all that bollocks.James H Reeve and James Stannage.
Essential listening from 10pm to 1am Monday to Friday early 80's to mid 90's
Seen Jasper on stage 3 times and he really is a funny guy.Was it Stannage who regularly played Jasper Carrott and Bob Williamson stuff?
My favourite was Carrott’s “Aston Villa Football Club Skinhead Supporters’ Song.”
“Villa, Villa, you are the team,
Villa, Villa, you are supreme,
And we’ll support you home and away,
Cos we’re the Villa skins OK,
With our combined IQ of maybe 3 or 4
You can hear us roar,
Give us a P
Give us an R
Give us an O
Give us a G
Give us an R
Give us as an A
Give us an M
Give us an M
Give us an E
What’s that spell?
VILLA!”
I loved Phil Wood and he had a wonderfully dry sense of humour.I only recall Stannage in the 90s and 2000s on Piccadilly.
