Shelvey NQ...... I'm not sure who you've been watching?? however, given your ludicrous defence of Garcia neither am i surprised you cannot recognise midfield proficiency.

I'm watching Jonjo Shelvey and funnily enough nearly every statistic supports my conclusions, not that you are weak enough to be seduced by anything like actual evidence. But he has "tenacity" which is an unquantifiable and largely pointless attribute.

It's not a ludicrous defence, it is pretty consistent with what a lot of people have said throughout the thread and is once again actually supported.

If you'd said any of:
Dembele
Matic
Inler
Matuidi
Gonalons
Schneiderlein
Wanyama

I wouldn't have disagreed they could play Garcia's role. But you said Shelvey. I'd be surprised if most people in this thread couldn't see why he'd be a useless replacement for Garcia.

Re: Javi Garcia

The fact some of you are dismissing Shelvey and Huddlestone so easily tells me even more about the quality of Garcia.

While, ideally, neither would be our first choice replacement, both would offer our squad far more flexibility and ability than Garcia. We also have to be mindful and realistic as regards to the quality/lack of game time balance, this fact will suely effect our recruitment.

Just present a coherent argument as to why Shelvey could play Garcia's role and I along with others might change our minds.

Just repeatedly stating "SHELVEY IS CLEARLY BETTER YOU'RE ALL IDIOTS, BASK IN MY WISDOM" hasn't convinced me yet ;)

It tells you I would rather the club not waste their money.

We dont need a purely defensive type,a more rounded player would be ideal IMO.
However,I agree, all far better options with regards to the more defensive role but also see my point above,if we went down this route, could we attract such quality to mostly sit on the bench?

And it still doesn't detract from my opinion that both Huddlestone and Shelvey would be better than Garcia in our midfield.

No they're both subpar.

In regards to your first paragraph, my hope is if we had... oh say... Matic then we would transition to a 4-3-3.

Pellegrini obviously wants Garcia to play a defensive role and I think his replacement should be able to, especially in the big games as the most defensive of a 3.

I'd actually keep Garcia as a 4th choice myself, bring in someone ahead of him as i don't think Rodwell is a viable option any more.

'youre all idiots' not my words,i'm all for debate.......

Garcia offers nothing at all to our play,he is genuinely static and completely destroys tempo and fluidity,he is bypassed like a faulty ticker and often looks lost positionally.

The two lads mentioned can do a far better job than him defensively while also having the ability to add some momentum and creativity to our play.Garcia is a one trick pony and its Paul Daniels like in quality......
