Shelvey NQ...... I'm not sure who you've been watching?? however, given your ludicrous defence of Garcia neither am i surprised you cannot recognise midfield proficiency.

I'm watching Jonjo Shelvey and funnily enough nearly every statistic supports my conclusions, not that you are weak enough to be seduced by anything like actual evidence. But he has "tenacity" which is an unquantifiable and largely pointless attribute.

It's not a ludicrous defence, it is pretty consistent with what a lot of people have said throughout the thread and is once again actually supported.

If you'd said any of:
Dembele
Matic
Inler
Matuidi
Gonalons
Schneiderlein
Wanyama

I wouldn't have disagreed they could play Garcia's role. But you said Shelvey. I'd be surprised if most people in this thread couldn't see why he'd be a useless replacement for Garcia.

Shelvey plays far more advanced role than Garcia so isn't a good example in the first place. Canas does a job for Swansea in Garcia's position, would of cost us a lot less too.

Just present a coherent argument as to why Shelvey could play Garcia's role and I along with others might change our minds.

Just repeatedly stating "SHELVEY IS CLEARLY BETTER YOU'RE ALL IDIOTS, BASK IN MY WISDOM" hasn't convinced me yet ;)

'youre all idiots' not my words,i'm all for debate.......

Garcia offers nothing at all to our play,he is genuinely static and completely destroys tempo and fluidity,he is bypassed like a faulty ticker and often looks lost positionally.

The two lads mentioned can do a far better job than him defensively while also having the ability to add some momentum and creativity to our play.Garcia is a one trick pony and its Paul Daniels like in quality......

Defensively I think Garcia's passing in tight situations and aerial ability are key, they're the things I'd most want to be repeated in a replacement.

For me Shelvey has nothing I want in a player at the level I'd want it for City. Huddleston is just too indisciplined in possession wasting moves on over-ambitious things yet still has the same lack of mobility and agility that hampers Garcia.

Canas is a good call.

I think Inler would be perfect, could even be part-ex if Napoli are chasing Garcia

I'm not saying we should get Canas, just that he'd definitely do a better job.

I think you were clear in that. I agree too. As it stands I think a significant upgrade is in order.

I expect we won't agree but genuinely think Garcia has done a good enough job to need a top quality replacement to better him. As I said I'd keep him as 4th choice anyway.

As I've said elsewhere,Schneiderlin would be a brilliant choice.

Schneiderlin is a fantastic defensive midfielder and would only be around the 10 million mark. If we were to go all out it would have to be for someone like Pogba.
