Negotiations began before the Euros started. Benfica held up the deal, digging their heels in to get as much as possible. This was confirmed by quotes from Garcia and his agent.

He won us the game away at Blackpool in mid October, for me that was when he went from looking handy to becoming a class act. That is 2 months after his debut by the way.
Silva is a different calibre of player to Garcia, he is a regular for Spain and was before we signed him, any club in the world would have taken him.
