No wonder he's so popular within the squad, he's like a flak jacket.

The defence has a lot more to deal with when Garcia lets the opposition by. Garcia doesn't get close enough to the opposition to get embarrasingly beaten. Embarrasingly beaten would be an improvement! :-)

It's a team game, and his role in the team is causing the others all types of issues. It's the one position in the team that the back four shouldn't have to carry..it's his job to protect them, not cause them to be dragged all over the place to compensate for people skipping past him every time.
snap.

Not to mention Dzeko couldn't hold the ball to save his life putting us under constant attack. Of course they're going to start getting through after so many chances.

it was Garcia's fault, the only job he has in his role is to protect our back 4 from the opposition midfield, when he goes missing, one of the defenders has to come out and close down the space, messing up our backline.
this is the problem here, we don't exactly ask much of him, and he doesn't do it.

I don't get how Zaba getting done at right full back and Demi being 2-3 yards to deep fits that description then.

Dzeko at least scores goals...some of them vital.

Garcia just causes us problems.

Of all the threads to use the "team game" argument in.

Zabaleta gets done because he's out of position trying to cover for Garcia, who's embarrassingly far away from the danger area and jogging back and demichelis is 2 yards deep to give himself time to block anything coming from zabas move, he's trying to compensate for his lack of pace. trying.

Demichellis must absolutely love Javi. Somehow noone seems to notice him averaging at least one hideous error that gifts the opposition a one on one chance per game, or him consistently lining up 5 yards behind the rest of our defence, as apparently you get a free pass for that sort of thing if Garcia is playing, or even if he's on the bench

Sure. Because all our issues last night didn't start with Dzeko having a tantrum because Aguero shot from a risky angle instead of trying to pass through four opponents to Dzeko whilst Dzeko was being man-marked by one of the said opposition.

Pellegrini's system relies on pressure from the top and from the threat of our forwards.

And still this isn't a defense of Garcia. I think he's only a squad player useful in a midfield three. That's all.

-- Thu Dec 05, 2013 10:13 am --

Get used to it. It's the formation we play. No midfield two can push forward as high as Pellegrini wishes and cover that gap between them and the central defense. Can't happen. It's why when our theoretical forward donkey kicks the damn ball fifteen yards instead of controlling it we come under intense pressure.

Since no one has asked, I'll just volunteer what I feel should happen. We should sell Garcia and probably Rodwell too. We shouldn't use Milner in as a central midfielder because he gets too far forward even for the system we've installed. We should buy one to two central midfielders over the next year. We must get used to the idea we're going to look very stretched no matter what in this system. The difference between this game and the last was Swansea didn't shoot well.

ill forgive him a couple of mistakes in his first few games, New team, New league, bad injury.
funny how none of those mistakes happened last night before Garcia came on isn't it? he must have thought " oh look, here's that clown, I'm not gonna concentrate any more"
