He's the only bench player we have that can do it.

Well then that just proves what a shallow squad we have.We desperately need a player who performs the protective/calming role as well as one that provides extra abilities when required - for 16m I was under the impression we had found such.......

Recognising Garcia's lack of attributes and contribution doesn't make anyone less of a Blue.
I don't think you'll find me saying anyone here is less of a Blue. Now if this were the Dzeko discussion...

Anyway, I'm not fussed about cost. Sometimes it just doesn't work out.

Again I share your opinion on Dzeko but give him some support as well until he leaves the club.

Not the player. I'm referencing some of the crazier fans.

The answer may be in the EDS?

Huws perhaps?
I don't get to watch the academy much being overseas, but he looked good in preseason from what I remember.

Honestly this I think is the biggest issue with our slow start away from home. We should be 6 points ahead of Arsenal at least, which would have given us the luxury of calling up some of the younger players for PL experience.

Sorry, I didn't take them in to any consideration :).

now taconinja, which fans would that be? ;)

I defend all city players as much as I can but I can't with Garcia. He has been poor since he signed for us (apart from a couple of headed goals) . His performance away at Wigan last season was fucking awful and I have seen no signs of improvement. He half heartedly jogs after the ball, is easily beaten in the air and teams just play it around him. I would have fernandinho, Milner, rodwell, Barry and de Jong all above him in his position and I would never consider him to play defence. Sell him and stop playing him.

And that's a fair opinion. I think we need to purchase a young midfielder or bring one out of the academy to do what he does but with a bit more pace. At the moment, he's what we've got.

Doesn't even have to be defensive minded IMHO another Fernandinho would do the job
I didn't intend "defensive minded." More disciplined tactically and positionally in a similar way to Garcia, but younger and can slot into the midfield two we play if necessary. They're out there. Finding one that is willing to mostly sit on the bench is the trick, though.

Garcia is only 26 but Axel Witsel might fit the bill and he recently said he wants to leave Zenit...although he did mention United. Could ask Kompany to have a word.....

Actually, we never tried Milner in that role, but i'm sure that a Fernh/Milner Yaya/Milner middfield would be a thousand time safer than having the dreadfull vision of Garcia roaming in the pitch.

I just can't bare the simple idea of having him sat in the freaking bench.

I wouldn't even put a quid on him outrunning my grandpa' on a one hundred metter hurdle race.

No, I've seen you contribute well to discussions. It's why it's surprising that you're posting such oddly limited opinions on this subject.

As another player stated, he stays in his position and keeps the ball ticking when it's passed to him. He has a good understanding when he's on the same pitch as Yaya and Fernandinho at the same time. Put some of our more loved players in that position and they'll be in the attacking third and we'll be fucked although I suspect some of our fans would like that because it shows "bravery." Of course what some call bravery, I often think of as rank stupidity.

I don't know why you think my opinion of him is oddly limited at all. I just really don't rate him and I don't think he has enough strengths to justify him being in our squad. I have explained what I think of him as a player, what I believe to be his weaknesses and that I believe any supposed strengths he has are still hugely limited, I have even given stats on how we perform when he is in the team and not in the team. I don't expect you to agree with me but I'm interested to know why my opinion is "oddly limited." Presumably if I said he was a decent squad player but didn't in any way try to justify that opinion you wouldn't think it was oddly limited? Oddly limited is a good phrase to describe Garcia though.
