Javi Garcia

I thought he was pretty good today. Just sat in front of the center backs and kept things simple. Granted he's no Yaya and Fernandinho and he's slow but he's slowly starting to win me round.

I stress this is only opinion, but for me - Lescott, Rodwell and Richards

I hope that doesn't look anti-English (as I am English) but Jo and micah lack technique and intelligence while Rodwell is error prone and inconsistent.

That said I see that all these players have a place in our squad.

Fair enough. Obviously I think all three are a lot better than Garcia overall. Garcia isn't as injury prone ill give you that.

Richards is a better right back than Garcia is a DM for me. Rodwell has great potential if he can stay fit and get a run of games and Lescott was a virtual ever present in our Premiership winning season establishing statistically the best centre half partnership in the league with Vinny.

That's a good response Cobwebcat, thanks.

That's why I find this topic most interesting because I think he's the player in the squad that generates the most divisive opinions.

Personally I don't expect him to create much going forwards or get into the faces of the opposition, I just expect him to safely pass the ball, pick up loose balls, win aerial duels and cover for out of position defenders - for me he nearly always satisfies that criteria. I do believe he has a steadying, stabilizing effect when brought on and i think he will start a fair few big away games in a 3 and do well, as at Bayern and Chelsea.

I respect though that other posts such of yourself bring different priorities to his role and of course you'll judge him under different criteria. I just comment because I hope that some of the positive things I see in his game can be highlighted in amongst the torrent of jokey abuse (although this thread has actually had a lot of good discussion in it very recently).

What disappoints me if that if he leaves there'll just be another player who takes his mantle, the shit one we need to get rid of, while systematically overlooking the flaws in the favoured player's games.

Well I hope not. It's something I've been accused of with no evidence given. Yes there are posters who will always want someone to have a go at but I don't count myself in this number. As long as I think that they contribute to City as a team I will back them. I've never had a problem with Kolarov or Dzeko for example.

Yes Javi has become a scapegoat now as his fan base dwindles. The reason though, I think, is that fans forgive poor performance in other players because they know what the player is capable of and has done for the club in the past. Garcia has put in a small handful of good performances while he has been at City and many think we should expect more from him, myself obviously included.

When the team plays well he gets by but when the others around him have an off day Garcia looks lost. I'm not disputing he has some quality but not enough for me. His skill set is very limited indeed.

I look through the squad and think wow for the most part but it stops with Garcia and Boyata and instead I think why?

Don't we want to win the champions league lol? why do we have a player who who is only capable of the absolute minimum you can expect of a midfileder an act like that's good enough. The defences on this thread are baffling to me. The throughline seems to be he's a limited player who does limited things well, so as a club challenging for the top honours that's somehow good enough. Think he offers less than even the likes of Steve Sidwell or Diame personally, let alone anyone higher. They can break up the play, win headers, do simple balls, but they can also play a ball further than 5 feet.

Don't put words in my mouth taco, I've never said I solely blame Garcia for this defeat. Considering this is a thread about Garcia I thought it would be ok to vent my frustrations, I've not gone into the post match thread and made it all about Garcia have I?
To be fair, I'm not the one that brought up the term "solely" except to say that wasn't part of the criteria. I don't think there's much "solely" to a team game although there are rare flashes when it does come down to one person's error.

I don't even disagree with the notion that he greatly contributed to the defeat.

What defeat?!
Sorry. Tired. I actually meant "greatly contributed to their goal." I realize we drew.

I know I should just stay out of this thread but it just kills me that people defend him by saying, "he does his job by sitting in front of back 4 and keeping things simple" - like that is an adequate defence of his limited capabilities.

I could forgive him if he had a passing range and could spray balls around the pitch like a Pirlo or Alonso. The guy is one of the most limited footballers I have ever seen, he's utterly and completely gash.

What's worst, is we're going to loose big money when will come the time to get rid of him.
We bought him for 16M, and honestly, i just don't see which side would spend even half of that for Garcia.
And to think he is on a 140K weekly wages, 6.5M pay-grade a year, good lord,..

No-one will be crazy enough to buy him.

We either part-ex him or send him out on loan to free up a space in squad.

His only redeeming feature is that he generally stays fit.

How many players spray it about like those 2 --------- probably just those two. So you dont expect much then!!

I defend him because he plays for City and over the years ive seen our fans destroy some of our own players
