I'm not dis agreeing with you just wondering why professional football managers don't rate Milner as highly as the fans do

I think football has evolved and ball retention is the key, particularly for foreign managers. As fans we love the commitment and endeavour of the Jimmy Milners but maybe if we looked at it scientifically we would conclude he may run a lot but that is negated by the frequency he gives the ball away.

Also in some ways he is a bit like Dzeko in that his performances blow hot and cold. In contrast the effort is always there but the game we lost to Arsenal the year we won the league he hardly made a decent pass.

I totally agree with that, I personally don't rate him for the reasons you have stated, I'm not sure Rodwelll is any better either, the only British players who are at the required level are are Ramsey and Wilshere,

For whatever reason we do not produce technically gifted footballers. I cannot remember who Spain played but they had Xavi, Iniesta, Cazorla, Fabregas, Mata, Silva and Isco in the squad, not including Busquets and Martinez and with the exception of Wilshere we do not produce players like that.

Players like Lampard and Gerrard can rake passes 50 yards but the subtlety of the five yard pass and awareness of players runs and utilisation of space is lost in comparison to foreign players. The frustrating thing is United have not had much in the way of that type of player centrally for years yet the endeavour of the Cleverleys has won them the league. I suppose it is getting the balance right,

Hopefully our academy produces the players we require in the future, nothing would be better if they were English as well

It pains me to watch Sturridge do so well as he was clearly top drawer. His goal in the Youth Cup final and performance against Schalke away for a kid were incredible. If we do produce them lets hope we do not let them slip through our fingers.

Hes certainly a decent passer, just saw this stat on Squawka, he did ok yesterday at his natural position

Premier League top pass accuracy (5+ games): Javi Garcia (95%), Arteta (94%), Britton (93%), Flamini (93%), Mikel (92%), Terry (92%).

I'd say that shows he never passed the ball further than the nearest man 5 yards away, which funnily enough is exactly what he did. I'm not knocking him for that as it was part of his job however imo he is, and always will be, still utter shite.

You mean a player doing exactly what he's meant to do really well is utter shite? Do you think all our other players like Nastasic and Clichy are trying to play expansive long balls or is Javi just doing the same as them but better?

Re: Javi Garcia (merged)

Feel like he's done well again tonight.

His consistency on the ball is always mocked but I think it's actually fairly impressive he pretty much never loses the ball. Seems to be given the ball-carrier role of Yaya tonight.

Not sure if I'm watching the same game but he's about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Fucking useless.

Prejudice mate. Plenty of City players worse than him tonight. The manager not covering himself in glory either.
