Jimmy & Joe To Sign New Contracts

I don't understand Jimmy's stance on this...he gets as much gametime as most

The only thing I can think of...as again...it cannot be financial

He's thinking ahead...if he signs a new contract who is to say he won't be shunted out of first team opportunities in the next couple of years

He stands a better chance of first team action if he moves...not just for now...but in the future

Yes it can. Free transfers get a nice fat signing on fee as there's no transfer fee involved.

In the long run though...would the signing on fee eclipse a decent contract for the remainder of his career?

If you weighed up the pros and cons of a move...from Jimmys perspective...it's high risk...but I think it's an eye on his future place within the squad

Playing personel can change quickly at the top...I think he's worried he will be left behind

It would be a ridiculous decision on his part if he was to leave

As well as the signing on fee that he will get at a club like Liverpool, you can probably also imagine that he will get more football there over the next few years, than he will get here

Personally, i can only see him falling further down the pecking order at City once we get further in the clear in terms of FFP
I take it you mean wouldn't ?

If James Milner has been offered the chance to replace Gerrard, ie become their icon, then I can maybe understand why he might make that move, but he's letting go any serious chance of winning the league again, and quite possibly CL football. If he's doing that just for better money, then its a poor choice, and even if he's doing that to become Gerrard mk11 its not a wise one, because Gerrard grew up with the club, whereas Milner is being bought in, and most football fans are less tolerant of a signing, than a home grown player, if it doesn't work out right away.

I'm not sure I'd swap City/Pellegrini for Liverpool/Rodgers, Rodgers might be replaced, and he might fit the new manager.

I don't think its a done deal yet, and he may yet weigh up his options and still stay, but the longer he leaves it, the more likely he is to lose respect within City's hierarchy, so he's taking a risk.

No i definitely meant would be a mistake leaving City

I don't think he is daft enough to think he could be some cringy Gerrard MK11 at Liverpool, and he also knows that at best the highest achievement he will make there will be qualifying for the Champions League, and perhaps a domestic cup trophy, and even that's at best

They have already announced Henderson as their Gerrard MK11, and everyone fully expects him to take over as captain, not that either him or Milner are anywhere near Gerrard in terms of quality

OK, but your first sentence seems to disagree with your last, which is exactly why he'd be making the decision.

I agree that he's making a mistake to a degree, but its for him to decide what he wants more.

What i am sure is on his mind is he could sign with us for the same money as liverpool but if we go out a sign another midfilder in the summer or if our other current midfielders all hit top form he could be on our bench for most of his next contract. At Liverpool with Gerard gone he would be one of the first on the team sheet every week. It's a weigh up between 1, money 2, football playing time, 3, winning things and being in a more competative club.

Yeah i did seem to contradict myself there a bit, it wasn't intended tho.

What i meant was that its a tough decision for him because if he stays he will have a very good chance of increasing his array of winners medals, but whilst perhaps playing less games

But if he leaves its the total opposite

I can see why he would be so torn, its probably his last decent sized contract given his age so he is going to have to decide between the two options above

4. International considerations too, possibly?

I've said it before but Milner has a super understanding with Silva. He is a hard working, intelligent footballer who makes some super runs. His passing is decent enough but not quite good enough to be centre midfielder for the top sides. Hence he plays for us on both wings but not as winger to beat a mna but more to get in behind with good movement.

It would appear he could end up at Liverpool as Gerrard's replacement. If that's the case it will be a disaster for him. Milner's best work is off the ball; runs, movement and tracking back. Liverpool want some sort of regista to replace Gerrard, Milner is many things but never that.

If January comes and goes with no contract signed he'll be off. Could see us looking again at James Ward Prowse to replace Milner. Haven't seen a lot of him but I know he covers a lot of the same positions as Milner, is a decent crosser and set piece taker but don't know much else about him.

Jimmy has been a great servant to the club. If he leaves, well so be it - he doesn't owe us anything.
It would be nice if he didn't say where he was going till the season is over mind.

Just in case you didn't hate Brenda enough already, here he is in full on twitcher mode..

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he feels James Milner is a "wonderful player", but has refused to be drawn on a potential move for the Manchester City man.

Milner's contract at the Etihad Stadium is coming to an end this summer and he has yet to pen an extension, with Liverpool monitoring matters ahead of a potential free transfer swoop.

The midfielder has been tipped as a successor to Steven Gerrard, but Rodgers will not be drawn on the specifics of any bid for the England international.

"Firstly, James is a wonderful player", Rodgers told a press conference. "He's been an outstanding footballer from when I first saw him at Leeds.

"But look, players get linked consistently here through agents and representatives.

"But I would never speak about any player until they are signed and in the door."
