All keepers make mistakes. Hart needs to step up, we've heard what Mancini has said and he has to see that Given is well within his rights now to go to Mancini, say Hart's been average lately, making costly mistakes costing us points..etc. And Mancini can only keep Given here for so much longer, he wants to leave, badly.
How much longer does Mancini insist on playing a player if they're making mistakes and a better player is sitting on the bench.
So does Mancini gamble and sell/loan out Given and hope Hart starts playing like he did for that one game against Spurs, and buy in another keeper, but he wont be as good as Given, or as experienced, not one who's willing to sit on the bench so does he force Given to sit on the bench though he doesn't deserve to?
Or play Given, who, because of lack of game time is rusty, will be rusty, but a more confident and not as error prone, and a proven excellent keeper. He'd still be taking a risk though, a risk he could have avoided had Given been used in every game outside the Premiership.
But we've a problem, like it or not, make as many excuses as you want, but there's a problem.
Hart is costing us points. Irrelevant of how many he saved us..etc that's his job, if he does it goes unnoticed but when he doesn't we've a problem. That's the life of a keeper.
The defence isn't confident in front of him anymore. Each player is responsible for their own game but you can see when a player doesn't have confidence in his teammate, and that is clear.
Hart is young enough, yes, but he's not that inexperienced. He knows the game, or at least he should by now, if he doesn't in Mancini's eyes then he has no business being with us. We're looking to push for the title, and you don't win titles with an inexperienced keeper, you can have a few young players in the team but it needs a spine of experienced talented players and leaders and at the centre of that spine needs to be a good experienced keeper, there's a reason why 99% of the top teams have keepers who are in their late 20s/30s.
Hart is nearly 24 years old, age shouldn't matter. If Mancini thinks he's good enough to play for us and help us win the title, then it shouldn't be used as an excuse. It's not excuse.
The best player plays, irregardless of "potential" or "the future" and as of late, he hasn't been good enough, he needs to either step up, get rid of the cockiness that has been so costly, or Mancini needs to make a call.
Yes he has potential, but so did a lot of English keepers. Lets not have another case of Foster or Green etc on our hands.
