Even though we got dominated we did not deserve to be behind 3 0...the only goal that was legitimately at fault of our defense was mueller goal around hart..Hart should've stopped that first goal and he should've stopped Robbens goal if he had a strong hand..we didn't deserve that scoreline ..Joe needs to be replaced we can't be world class if our keeper is letting in soft goals ...casillas needs to come to city so we can end each other's misery

I#m still going against the grain with Joe despite the chief football writer at the BBC doung not one but two hatchet jobs on him and the back pages of the red-tops blaming him for just about everything.

There are 11 players on the pitch who have to be gotten past before the keeper. Where was the full back or midfielders when Ribery was given all the time in the world to drift inside and shoot for the first goal. Granted, after getting a hand to it i'd expect the save to be made but to lay the blame solely at the keepers door is wrong.
Every player on that team last night was given the runaround for 80 minutes. Toure, Fernandinho, Micah, Nasri where nowhere to be seen (for 1st goal) yet the keeper gets blamed.

Radical but possible solution?

Send him back to Shrewsbury on a month's loan.

To achieve what exactly?

send him back to his roots. No pressure, see some familiar faces, get him thinking about what it was that made him so keen to be a professional footballer, get him refreshed, hungry and determined to come back and have a fresh start.

Keeping him out of the limelight and dropping him will just make him depressed of Carrington and want to leave, and then we'd lose him permanently.

and you think sending a premiership goal keeper and England international to the dregs of English football would keep him out of the limelight and not make him depressed?!

OMFG you need a job as a motivational speaker!!!!!

I'm all for giving players a run to get through bad patches but this isn't just 5-10 games, it's become a fairly regular thing now and for his own good I think he needs a break. He's a strong-minded lad but sometimes that can be to your detriment if things continue going wrong around you, so I believe Pantilimon should get a run now. He's not world-class but he's never let us down and can actually distribute the ball :-)

Poor joe my fucking ass how can anybody defend this guy..do we not care about our European ambitions?

I can't get my head around why people think dropping him would in some way help.

Hart is the best English keeper, best premier league keeper and he's right up there with the very best in the world. He's won the golden gloves for the last 3 seasons running.

His problem at the moment is confidence. Confidence in himself, and his team mates for that matter.

It can't help that he keeps getting different coaches to work with either. We like to get to the match early to watch the warm ups and every time a new man comes in everything changes, even the warm up. It might not seem like a big deal but pro sportsmen like routines, they like sitting in the same seats in the dressing room, putting one sock on before the other, hopping 3 times on the their left foot, running to the corner flag before kick off etc etc - they're superstitious and like consistency.

He had a wobble at the start of the season when he was on loan at Birmingham and, when Hart couldn't play against us, Taylor stepped in and kept a clean sheet. It looked like McLeish would drop him but he didn't, he kept with him and Hart ended up being voted Birmingham's player of the season and was nominated for PFA young player of the year.

In my opinion, and it counts - I was my primary school's number 1, so I know what I'm talking about ;) We should get his head in shape, show him we trust him, massage his over inflated gazzillionaire ego not kill it.

It's not all his fault. We've been generally poor defensively, which obviously doesn't help a keeper's confidence and, while you can blame him for last night's goals at the near post, you can't blame him for the manager not changing the tactics after 20 mins when we were getting battered in midfield.

Long story short. He's lost form but he's not suddenly a shit keeper. Dropping him isn't going to help.

Yes but when your a world class goalkepper you don, t continusaly make the mistakes he has been making couple of weeks out of the team let him think about all the hard work he put in to make him a top keeper.

Do you not think the press would send reporters to report on England's number 1 playing League 2 football?

Last night was the first time I wanted Hart replace, Casillas would be my choice. Would avoid Valdes as he'll need time to adjust to the likes of Huth, Terry, Lukaku putting him under pressure.

You give him the choice of rotting at Carrington, as that is what will happen till he leaves permanently.

Or you give him the chance to go home to his favourite club, back to fans who'll appreciate him just being there and adore him and there'll be a huge lift there and that will reflect back on Joe and give him some confidence. He can rediscover what made him tick as a young lad, recall fond memories and get some games under his belt against cannon fodder opposition, but back to basics and in games that will keep him busy.

Sometimes you have to get yourself out of a rut and take a radical step to change something in your life, and take a step back to go much further forwards. At the end of the day if he's at Carrington he's not playing and not exorcising those clear demons and lack of confidence that stems from his mistakes.

It's easy to dismiss it but people always say they "can't" do something, and that's why they end up in mediocrity or not as good as they should have been.

People who take that next step, take the risk, give something a go find a new side to themselves and become a better and more rounded person.

He needs to find himself and he won't do that in training, and he won't do it playing second fiddle to a guy who's played second fiddle to him for 2 seasons.

-- Oct 3rd, '13, 12:24 --

Course they would, but you don't think they'll be lining the driveway at Carrington and printing stories about the end of his City and England career if he gets dropped anyway? He'll have media whatever he does, he might as well be brave about it.

If he was an outfield player he would have been subbed. It is not a one off and maybe he will not be used by England next match. Anyway I think our management team will sort it out soon.

So are you saying last nights performance and result was all Joe's fault ?

Costel Pantilimon is far from the finished article , but Joe Hart needs a spell on the bench for his own good .... it's one mistake after another with him at the moment , and last nights poorly conceded opening goal deflated the entire side , that was clear to see as we chased 'shadows' for most of the game.

He knows himself he's struggling , and he can no doubt hear all the criticism coming his way , even if he says it doesn't faze him ....... but clearly its time for a change right now.

I agree with your sentiment. Unfortunately though, the media would not allow this to happen without ripping it/him/us to shreds. Therefore it's a no-go.

Everytime I come on here and defend him, he plays shit so I'm just going to leave this debate now and all our goalkeeping crisis' will be solved.
