John Stones

I think he is right to sit and let the clubs sort this out.
If I want want something, I asked and do what is necessary just as Fernandinho did when he wanted to come here. Like I said, imo I think Stones could be doing more to facilitate this move and handing in an official transfer request therefore foregoing any loyalty bonuses to prove his commitment to the move would be a start......

How much does he want this move? Over to you Johnny boy.

Maybe Citys position has changed over this pre-season. Maybe Pep has had a look at who he has at his disposal and maybe he is more relaxed about the situation now that he has seen Tosin and maybe Vinne is nearer to full fitness and he hasnt met EM yet

It may have been that at the start of the transfer window City felt this and full back were positions that needed strengthening but now that he has seen in the flesh what he has to work with he is more relaxed and so this take it or leave it position is one that he and the club are happy with..just a thought

I've already made these points before but again:

1) I think the record fee paid for an English player was £45m for Sterling. The world record fee for a defender is £50m for Luiz. £40m is a massive fee. It's hardly a case of getting him on the cheap. And a few months ago, Everton fans came on here telling us about Moshiri's Billions and how it was a new start for EFC etc. What is the point of holding out for even more money when you are wealthy? False economy leaving it to the end when you have to replace the player.

2) Kenwright has managed to ratchet the fee up to £40 million. Well done. The rest of football would think it ridiculous if City paid that let alone £50m. To say you're not going to discuss anything less than £50m is seriously disrespectful to the player and would put the relationship between club and player at risk.

I don't think Everton had any intention of finding the best deal for Stones which really they have an obligation to do when the player says they want to leave.

Well 1) the Everton fans that came on telling us about their money were full of shit. 2) we don't actually know what the situation is, only what the media say it is. Everton may be negotiating the add ons right now & just doing a bit of haggling before eventually coming to an agreement.

he did give an official transfer request last summer too when Chelsea were after him, but Everton stood firm
I'm not so sure. I read the Sky article, but from what I recall he did then as he's done this summer which is told his bosses he wanted to leave, but he didn't hand in an official written transfer request then and hasn't done so this time around either.

Surely common sense should tell the lad that if his tactic of sitting on the sidelines didn't work last summer, doing the same thing again this summer is likely to bring about the same result. He needs to stick his head above the parapet and get this transfer motoring for everyone's sake. The way this is going, it could get to the point where Everton couldn't sell anyway as they won't have time to get a suitable replacement before the window shuts.

The way I see it is that they have a commodity that someone wants to buy and they dont need to sell. IMO, Everton can ask what they want, whether anyone pays their valuation is a different

So it's ok when a player does this in our favour but when Tevez wanted to leave us he was called a ****. Imagine if Aguero just stopped training with us to force a move away. It's a dirty unproffesional trick.

What makes you think any of those players would want to go? They have contracts with us and cannot be forced against their wishes
I would have thought Delph at his age would have his eye on the next world cup and will only get into the England team by playing regularly - but as I said, rare to see swap deals these days.We can only hope, we will have 2 or 3 players who will not be in the squad under player registration rules.

Said this all along not a thought. It's actually listen to what Pep has been saying. Tbh l think City is dragging on the transfer to give Pep a few days with Mangala. But it's not what people wanna hear on here.

Personally, I think Delph will flourish under Pep and will get good game time this next season

Do you really regard human beings as commodities?

Setting that aside I think it's ridiculous to say your not even going to discuss a fee for a player, who wants to leave, unless it reaches a World Record amount

The player might want to leave, but his employers might think differently. In those circumstances, Everton have done the right thing i.e. if we are to sell him to you, it will beon our terms, not yours. Up to us to respond to tbat. Personally ,, dont see what the issue is, we either pay or walk away if there is no compromise

Does what in our favour, hand in an official transfer request? No-one is advocating Stones doing any of the other things that you mentioned, unless you've read it somewhere on BM and I've missed it.

Tevez was a completely different situation. Even his national team manager made a statement to say he'd dropped Tevez from the national team because he'd become unmanageable and he blamed the way City kept bowing to his requests for wage increases, in-season holiday breaks and other special requests as one of the reasons for Tevez's difficult attitude. He even went on to say that Tevez had bragged in the Argentina dressing room that when he wanted something at City, he spoke only to 'The Sheikh' to further underline Tevez's delusions of grandeur. Tevez wasn't serious about leaving us in those initial stages, it was all power play brokering between him and Mancini and in the end the club grew a pair and backed Mancini. Also, this is the same Tevez who got his lifelong wish to end his playing career at his beloved Boca........... Which is also the same Tevez who's now trying to engineer a moved back to the Premier League with Chelsea. That Tevez?

Also, I'm not going to imagine anything about Aguero as no such situation has ever materialised and hardly looks likely to if reports are to be believed that he's ready to signed a contract extension with us taking him to 2020.

If a player's heart is not in it, it's a stupid strategy to play tough, especially if you mis-read your opponent as their performance will dip and it affects the team. All the players, not just Stones will know the situation. Pricing a player out of our transfer when he has twice requested a move is not going to go down well. You have some duty towards the player after he's given you 12 months. Fair enough if City were trying to take advantage but at £40m plus that's really not the case.

I disagree that his value will be retained. In 12 months time, he will be in to the last 2 years of his contract, not a good situation for a selling club, and I think Stones's game will also be affected by this dispute. It's got to mess with your head.

Kenwright has backed himself into a corner now. It will be difficult to replace him now without themselves having to pay way over the odds, so I don't see their strategy changing. In that sense they are likely to stick to their guns, but I don't think it's that clever.

Yea I get what you're saying but players are professionals who know if they underperform they'll have to reduce their wage demands or lose the chance of a big move. Teams like Spurs and Everton are known for playing hardball when they sell.

40m is a decent price for Stones, personally I don't rate him that highly but if his defending improves, he'll be a top player. But prices have doubled since the TV money pretty much doubled (gone up 70% anyway).Shaw went for 30m before prices went up and they rejected 30m last year from Chelsea. He's coming off a bad season, if he improves they'll be looking at 50m next season anyway. It's not like the homegrown market is getting loads of young talented players. The only alternative is to give your own young players a shot

You can't have 8 homegrown players, 4 would have to have come through from your own club. If we sign Stones, either one of the 'homegrown' or one of the 'overseas' players has to go in order to make way.

You can have upto 25 players over the age of 22, but only 17 none homegrown, so you can have 8 homegrown players and 17 NHG. You can have as many young players (below 22) as you want. Essentially City have had to make do with a smaller squad.

Hi, Everton fan here. Agree with this post completely, no fan of any club (including ours) should be advocating players going on strike - its disgusting and unprofessional.

Anyway, Stones has met with Moshiri and told him he wants to leave. Moshiri is happy to let him go as long as the valuation is met. £50mill is a lot but we rejected £40mill last year and this year, especially with the extra £££ coming in has seen values rise again so this is about right. Also if you buy him, he becomes the world class defender most Evertonians expect and he stays the rest of his career, that fee will be a bargain.

Finally, I still think we expect him to leave but cant see us letting him go until we have his replacement signed otherwise it leaves us vunerable. We have made a huge bid for Koulibaly so if we get him in then Stones is on his way to you.
