But we are not trying to sell our house, we'd rather keep it as we love it. However if a very good offer come along we would reluctantly accept.

That's why I don't get the 'take it or leave it' stance. I think Everton will happily leave it as we would love Stones to stay and learn from one of the best ball playing CB's there was. However, anyone could see why he would want the chance to work with Guardiola, but only if a deal suits us, not City or Stones.

I agree mate...dont think Everton need or want to sell, so take it or leave it offer, actually making it easier for Everton to keep him! I think the only issue is, would they want to keep an unhappy player for a 2nd straight season? As you mentioned earlier, the way they could get round this is by offering him a new improved contract and add a release clause for next season. Personally think CB is a position with the most questions on our team, so if not Stones, we need to find someone. I think we'll find away to get this done before the transfer window shuts but clearly Everton are in control of this transfer and are negotiating from a position of strength.

I'm not sure Everton would 'happily' leave it. This would be the second year he was looking to leave and as his contract runs down, his value starts to drop off from here. Footballers' contracts are a balancing act, unlike an investment in a house because you're dealing with a commodity that (all being equal) depreciates in value during the term of the contract. Worst case scenario is, if you don't let him leave, you could end up with a player determined to stay and see his contract out. That's where Everton fans are slightly over egging their bargaining position, imo.

He will be dissapointed, there is no doubt about it but he's 22, not 30 so its not like he missed his only chance at a move. He was dissapointed not to join Chelsea last year but this year Guardiola wants. If he keeps progressing, there will be plenty more opportunities to move as top clubs will always want top players - it doesn't benefit him to throw his toys out of the pram and by all accounts he's not that type anyway. As I have said in an earlier post, his form dipped due to the team and Martinez, nothing to do with his attitude.

The problem is that the contract situation is offset by the yearly increase in PL money floating about, so a £10mill decrease next year due to him only having 2 years left will be offset by the £10mill yearly increase in player values. Plus if he doesn't move there is no way he, or his agent will happily let him sit on £30k a week for the next 3 years so he will end up signing a new deal to reflect the valuation put on him by the club.

Its probably all irrelevant as I firmly believe he will sign for City but at the £50 mill valuation. I thought Koeman may have took Bony in exchange as we need another striker and he seems like a Koeman type, strong, can hold the ball up and can play upfront on his own - plus it would have meant less of the fee going to Barnsley.

Very briefly as i've not been up to scratch lately, how close/far is this from getting done?

I got the feeling that this was a done deal about a week or so ago and i know he's travelled with Evertons squad but i don't think he's played.
