We had neighbour whose cat was called Ginger. Now it was called Ginger because the neighbours young kid , had met a cat for the 1st time, and it was a ginger cat, called Ginger, and they assumed every cat should be/was called Ginger. So when they got a cat themselves, the kid called it Ginger… despite it being a black and white.
This led to the classic comment in our household one day whilst entertaining ‘oh there’s a black and white cat in the garden and it’s not Ginger’…
