How did this go from "we must sign Mata" to who is the greatest footballer in history? hahaha
Common on Bluemoon I think!

Dax has said everything I could ever say about the topic perfectly so I refer all posters quoting me back to him.

Messi would score triple that if he spent his career in Brazil and USA.
And I suppose the world cup is a micky mouse cup?

Not quite sure what world cups have to do with it.

Well it counters the idea that Pele was dominating a weak league. The argument that Messi would have scored more if he played all his life in Brazil is easily countered by comparing their accomplishments in a competition in which they both played. The WC. By the age of 23 Pele and Messi have both been in 2 WCs. Pele scored 7 goals to Messi's 1 and won a SIlver ball, and a Silver boot, to Messi's none. And Oh! Yeah! 2 World Cups to Messi's none. So clearly it is hard to suggest Messi would have done better than he was doing in the Brazilian league, considering Messi is not doing remotely close to what he was doing at the same age at the WC.

-- Tue Jun 07, 2011 6:33 pm --

Sorry mate. Sometimes we get bored with no news, so we dabble in other fantasies :)

Few more rumblings in the rag tops this morning. Is it gaining momentum? I have no idea.

It's immaterial to me who's the best player is ever, as it's impossible to judge players/teams from earlier era's.

One thing on Messi's side is he was managed by a total fecking idiot by Maradona for one of the World cups.

On Pele's side the boots and ball were much heavier and the quality of the pitches were much poorer back in his day.

You could go on forever, with things like attitude.....Pele swore not to play another WC after being kicked off the pitch, which he later rescinded to the relief of the Brazilian public.

Theres far too much to consider and all we should agree on is that we have been blessed to see such quality.

Not seen much of Mata, but if Mancini and co think he's a decent player then that's good enough for me.
