Keir Starmer

What he said today was perfectly reasonable but he should have said it 2 weeks ago.

This is going to be a really big problem for Labour the longer it goes on. We all know they're walking this line of trying not to offend anyone, but this is one of the few really big topics where you can't avoid offending some people, and sitting on the fence just means you offend everyone.

So immediately it undermines their main election strategy, but on top of that it's the ghost of Corbyn and accusations of antisemitism rearing it's head again. The one issue that is a complete minefield for Labour.

I bet the tories can't beleive their luck.

They need to recognise that this conflict could go on to the election and sort out their messaging on it. Take a reasonable stance and stick to it.

He must realise that everybody sees through his shit. I cannot believe this is the only other viable option available to us other than the Torys, like choosing between a kick in the bollocks or a punch in the bollocks
It’s not though is it? It’s like choosing between someone who has kicked you in the bollocks repeatedly for 12 years and someone you are worried might have the potential to kick you in the bollocks at some point.

Fair enough. Not a great state of affairs either way is it!

No they don't.

It won't dent Labour's poll lead, it might create waves in the party, but barely a ripple beyond it. Starmer won't care, he's done courting the party, right now he's courting those who voted Tory in 2019, they're the folk who'll decide the next election and this war means next to nothing to them.

The war only becomes an issue for Starmer if he's seen to side with the Palestinians, then the Tory client media can paint him as a fellow traveller with the jihadists, and the Jew hating Corbyn and so on and so forth, ad infinitum.

Right now the right wing press don't have much beyond calling him a ditherer, but if he changes his position they'll pounce, then he'll be nothing more than a puppet for his anti-Semitic lunatic fringe.

As for those who want the Tories out, but are uncomfortable with Starmer's stance, to paraphrase Peter Mandelson "Who cares? They've nowhere else to go."
